rcd510 and can

Featured Replies

hi all

I have a mk2 2008 octavia vrs tdi and im looking to put an rcd510 in.

is there anyway I can check before hand if I have the correct can gateway so I avoid the dreaded battery drain issue?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Double post sorry

Either scan with vcds (check out the members map in the vcds part of the forum) or visually inspect the part, which can be accessed under the cover behind the wiper arms. There is a guide here for the Golf but it is the same for the Octavia:

I can scan it for you if you are anywhere near South East Wales.

However, for the Columbus, the battery drain can actually be fixed with a software update, am not sure if the same applies to the RCD510 but it is worth investigating. But actually I think you will be just ok anyway with a 2008 car.

A scan with vcds will tell you, a 2008 model will almost certainly have a new enough gateway.

wont work as can runs at a different speed.
