Considering 2 yearly service at Midas

Featured Replies

The local Midas will do me the 2 year service on my petrol 1.8 TSI (QG1, variable service intervals) for 100€ less than the Skoda dealer.

For the oil change, they say they'll use MIDAS 5W30 LL III.

Before running out and spending 100€ on wine, women and song, I would be grateful if someone could tell me what VW standard this Midas oil is equivalent to.

If the difference is only E100 over two years, or E50 a year, say £42, I'd query whether the saving is worth it, given impact on future value.

It must meet and be labelled as VW 507 spec compliant.

Check what VW specs it meets

Stuart: I plan on running this lovely car into the ground, so future value is not an issue.

gatgetman: isn't VW 507 for diesels?

I suppose I can't loose anything by going to the shop and asking to see the specs on the Midas oil tin...

I went ahead and had the 2 year service done at Midas for 187€.

They used a VW 504 spec oil with Midas on the tin, the man said it was made by Shell.

I was going to buy a litre of the same Midas oil for possible topping up, but the man said if I needed an oil top up before next service, just drop by and they'd do it for free.

So I saved 100€. Not that I'm hard up, I wouldn't mind forking out if I got value in return, but I can't see that you do at the official dealer (here in Madrid).
