Techi Clutch issues...

Featured Replies

I bought this kit last year

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VR6-CARBON-KEVLAR-CLUTCH-G60-LIGHTENED-BALANCED-FLYWHEEL-GOLF-GTI-TURBO-/370927281054?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item565cfd239e

Thought it capable of handling the power and reliability I was after.

It was fitted in April last year

And only covered around 7000 miles and started slipping last week

Also it was never really a nice light feel and was kinda dragging a little

It was removed on Thursday and this is the clutch plate . Can see damage to outer edges.

Sure this is one reason for the dragging and judder.

The sandwiched material is quite loose.

Secondly after my good friend Clive at CN Tuning removed this kit and fitted a VR6 Sachs kit, after starting car all sorts of metal knocking noises going on. The noise would die out after pressing in clutch.  After some scratching of heads and checking various things the box came back out again.

Soon became apparent what was going on.

Check out the scoring on the rear of gearbox

This lined up exactly with the rivets of the new Sachs clutch pressure plate.

With that in mind we suspected something odd with the Techi clutch flywheel.

So we checked the width of the techi clutch lightened and balanced G60 Flywheel to the OEM G60 flywheel

Techi clutch one

OEM one

There was around 3mm less on OEM.

The techni clutch pressure plate was also a little smaller width to a OEM one and so meant even more wider overall.

This meant the pressure plate was a lot further back in gearbox and the result of the scoring on the box.

You would of expected the Flywheel to be compatible with any clutch especially as it was supposed to be also lightened and balanced but not the case.

I will be taking this up with Techni clutch

****e mate, don't say that, That's the same kit I sold on after never fitting.......

doesn't seem the best time for clutches of late lol.  this was the one that I saw when you got it want it?  they were pretty good with the flywheel that time tho so should be sorted I hope.

nice to know the car is still going tho.

all the best.

Hey Billy mate, nice to hear from you , hope all is gong well with you my friend

Yep I am sure a number of folks are ok using the techni clutch as let's face it they sell truck loads, and look at the Ebay feedback but yo only hear the bad news right. And there does seem to be a lot lately.

If you look at the quality of there stuff it does not look that impressive TBH.

I now have the love back for my car and it is going very well at the moment dude.

Buy cheap, buy twice

Thats why i put genuine flywheel in and a sachs clutch to start with when my original died.

2 years, 20k and 3 track sessions later and still going strong

true,  and i am normally first to say that with all what i have changed over the years

never again will i cross my own judgement

Techni clutch have a reputation for supplying utter cack.

Techni clutch have a reputation for supplying utter cack.

indeed!

Techni clutch were one to watch back in my RS turbo and Cossie days (over 10 years ago now), so how there still in business i'll never know.

I've never bought anything from them, but tbh i've never been tempted to either, after all i've read and seen about there kit.

As for there G60 and VR6 options, there not even that cheap.

for std cars they are.

unfortunately their uprated stuff really isn't that by the looks of it.  £200 ish notes for the clutch and flywheel tho is pretty cheap, just not the best on a powerful car, on a std car it would prob be fine for a lot longer.  I am just surprised ti was catching and dragging tho.

that was the first thing I checked when I swapped my fabia one over a few months back. there was no sign of anything scraping or catching.

glad its all sorted now though.

I had one and it was s$%t never got a replacement or a refund utter crap and there after sales

for std cars they are.

I paid £62 delivered for a genuine sachs VR6 clutch (good for over 300lbft) and £25 for a good condition used G60 flywheel, although the flywheel is only £133 new from TPS, £12 for the flywheel bolts from ebay (new) and about £2.50 for the clutch cover bolts from TPS.

So even if I had bought a new flywheel (most likely refurbished anyway), then it would still have been around the same price as techni-b0ll0x but actually does the job :D

Well,  I responded to Techi clutch today and well very surprised to here that their Flywheel and Clutch kit is bespoke . You mean I need to continue to buy a Techi clutch kit with their flywheel.

It dam well don't say that on there add's.

here is the coms......

most recent first....

Good afternoon Mark,

Yes, the flywheel and clutch in this pack are bespoke with each other and cannot be used with other products. If the item had wear and tear then it is not covered by the warranty; the only other suggestion is that you buy another clutch from us for the flywheel you have and sell it as a complete unit.

Kind regards,

Frank.

Hi There. I purchased this item on 05/03/2012 for £*****.**** on your invoice document no *******

It was fitted on my car by a professional VAG tuner company in April of 2012. It has covered approx 10,000 miles since that time on fitment.

I started to get clutch judder and slipping and last week had gearbox removed to find the having odd wear and tear. I had no choice but to fit a different clutch at the time to get car on road. When I tested there was a lot of noise coming from gearbox. Having removed box again to find the new sachs clutch rivets were hitting the back of the gearbox. Have pics of this. I discovered that the Techi clutch G60 flywheel is a lot wider than a OEM VAG flywheel , enough to cause hitting of clutch rivets. I would of thought a Techi clutch Flywheel (lightened and balanced ) should be able to be used with other clutchs. I have a number of pics to show this issue.

Not happy ......considering next options.

mmmmmmm

sounds familiar this mate, only thing is yours is over a year older than mine.  It says G60 on there tho so I would of thought same that it will be usable with G60 stuff?

Can you not get them to some how send a free plate and cover?

I think this would be fine on a std car or a simple remapped car at a pinch but when you go more its a bit much.

IMO tho you do have an argument tho that they don't say they are bespoke and will only work with their own clutches.

hope you get something sorted mate.

Urm there clutch kit hit box aswell hence the noise when fitted by jkm

Lightened but weight same as oem g60 flywheel

Clutch plate splitting in 2 is not normal wear !!

Simply crap product do not use

I've seen one of these fitted to a remapped Fabia Vrs and it lasted 2 weeks. They paint standard items red and call it upgraded.

Sorry you got caught out mate

Yep won't happen again buddy.......

I bought a car off a mate a couple years back and he'd fitted one of these. 8 miles later in my new car and I'd shredded the face off the clutch!!

Had a brand new OEM clutch kit fitted and everything was fine. Cheap re manufactured standard parts which had been painted red and called 'performance'

I thought the kit was rated to 450Nm?

Moving forward, what kit will sustain 330 bhp/torques for 50k miles
