Water ingress - not the sunroof

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just over the weekend Ive been experiencing a leak somewhere - water seems to be entering just above the bonnet release catch. Luckily the rubber floor mats have been catching it so the carpets are dry. However this morning there was a 5mm puddle in the passenger side floor mat.

Ive not had any issues previously and just checked the sunroof and the water is flowing freely away and out of the drain hole in the door frame as its supposed to.

I wondered if its a faulty door seal near the windscreen pillar?

Answers on a postcard to...

My postcard would say... its the white plastic connector that links the drain outlet to the rubber drain pipe that runs down your a pillar to the hinge area outlet. The connector at the top of the sunroof channel allows some water to run down the outside of the pipe  and down the inside of the A pillar trims and when it goes straight ( where it meets the dash) it runs down the inside of the plastic dash to the bonnet release where is then exits and dribbles down the plastic panel and onto the mat. Pull of the end dash panel as look inside for drops of water and red/orange drainage pipe. Upon removal of the interior roof you'll see it quite clearly.

Id sign the postcard saying, 'yours, without doubt' and 'wish you were here!' ;)

Most likely leaves blocking the drain holes in the bulkhead area....

Thanks. Will check these two things at the weekend when its light. Since I moped up the water on Monday there hasn't been anymore. The odd thing is I washed the car last weekend and had none in after that.

The only thing Ive found is the door seal being a loose fit round the pillar at the windscreen. I pulled it off with ease and squashed the grippy 'U' shaped  part and pushed it back on so now its a tight fit.

To save yourself some time, check my recomendation first. ;) If it was blocked with leaves (not possible due to the size for the drain that rund vertically in the a pillar) it wouldnt be allowing the water to exit by the door hinge. Best of luck.
