Fab 1

Who else has a 1.4 MPI (what does that mean!!) petrol Fabia estate? I'm just appalled at the range; I manage to claw out about 370 miles before my nerve fails and I fill up (I've just had a new fuel sender unit fitted under the guarantee too, no more mpg, but a more measured descent). Just a pointer to anyone else in the same position; I should have read the handbook more thoroughly; may actually have harmed the sender by overfilling first time round, since I gather this floods the expansion chamber. Used to have a Passat Sport estate until I retired and wish I'd stuck to diesel. This looks an interesting site, and hopefully, you have room for a few non petrol-heads!! Thanks for your interest, and possibly your thoughts.

I think 370miles is a pretty good range for a small petrol car. I get less than that in my Octavia, although I do a lot of town driving.

Welcome to the forum and to answer your question,

My dad used to have the MPI and it stands for Multi Point Injection. Basically it is a 1.4 version of the 8v unit used in previous Skodas over ythe last 30 years with an updated version of the injection system introduced as single point in '93 in the Favorit, and previous version of multipoint in the Felicia around '96.

What Roo said

370 miles is not bad range really - the TDi gets around 450... The old 8vunit (which you have) isn't the most frugal of engines, but I really wouldn't be disappointed with the economy your getting. Just remind yourself how cheap it is to fill it up.

You won't do any harm overfilling the tank, it fills up the expansion. I just don't recommend doing so on a hot day. If you fill the expansion up and have to drive another 50 miles to get home, there isn't a problem.

Is that you John? Glad you found us all here...
