Expensive problem.

Featured Replies

I've had my car in as I haven't been pleased with the gear changes.

Long story short; new gearbox on its way and will be here in 15 days.

Apparently total cost would have been roughly 10k. Glad I've got a warranty.

They were saying they just did an R8 s-tronic and that came to 17k.

Is this the RS5?!?

That's epic! I only paid £4500 for a whole Octavia vRS.

I bet you're glad you took it in now. What turned out to be the problem?

Yes on the RS 5. Crazy money isn't it.

The problem was a component in the mechatronics unit apparently causing oil to seep out.

Thing is that's at list price. Actual cost of gearbox is probably 50% of that. Even more annoyingly it's probably a fairly easy fix but they won't strip the gearbox down to do it.

Same with the evo x I had which had a new box under warranty. Another out of warranty had to buy a new box because a £50 sensor/switch failed and gertag don't sell them separately.

Jeez that's crazy money. It's good the warranty are accepting the claim.

Did they redesign the box to stop this happening again?

Bet you're glad you still took it in while under warranty, that's eye watering money for a repair.

Well the gearbox itself was closer to 7k but its the other stuff that goes with it that tops it up to 10k.

Very glad it is under warranty, I wouldn't run one of these things without it. The fuel is expensive enough.
