Does Re-mapping a vrs make it "hot"

Featured Replies

From what i have seen there are no real performance changes internally in the engine from a BLT vs ASZ just the map.

So blts are already a little bit quicker? So really a map would see a lesser increase in power but still be a worthwhile mod.

Also thinking about it. The fabia is in the "super mini" class. Same as a cooper s or corsa vxr. Not in the same league as a golf gti, focus rs or astra vxr.

A friends stage 1 fabia goes like a stabbed rat so I suppose im worrying about nothing really :)

The cars on finance so ill be keeping it for a while. And with it getting 40mpg+ ill be keeping it and probably end up doing the turbo etc :)

Think I would struggle going back to a petrol at the moment

I did slowly out pull a mini cooper S supercharged version, and happy with that - its not bad considered what the fabia is and what money its cost/spent on it.

Your BLT should remap to the same as an ASZ. Just from the factory the BLT seem to be quicker.

Ive recently remapped my BLT, I was concerned I wouldnt notice much difference and I was wrong, delivery is so much smoother and pulls all through the revs. Its deceptively quick now and 3 figure speeds approach quickly. Had a play with an old shape starlet gt turbo, not sure what his was running but had front mount intercooler so I dont think it was stock and the performance seemed pretty even. Doubt he was getting 45mpg + though.

Personally stage one map is as far as I would go, if I want a quicker car id swap rather than ploughing money to make the fabia faster. Bang for buck stage one remap is good though

My vRS SE was 139.9bhp on sharks dyno a few weeks back.

really? A 9.9bhp increase over stock. That's pretty poor TBH :(

Imo the real "fun" comes at hybrid / GTB stage.

A remap gives the feeling of being quick and "sporty" but choose your battles wisely ;)

ha... the willy waving vrs thread

i saw a sierra cosworth and an astra vxr turbo having race the other day and i brutalised them both in a my felicia does that count?

The Fabia, especially the MkI vRS or MkI 1.9TDi gives the most fun in 2nd or 3rd IME. The power isn't that much stock really. It's the torque in 2nd and 3rd that's the fun bit.

TT, Damo made a meme you could recaption for this topic :D

I thought that. No where near the 150bhp people speak about on these engines.

To add I also had a Milltek cat back, a k&n panel filter and the 160 intake on at the time.

And your brakes.... :)

Just checked my print out and it's actually less than that @ 139.4hp. With torque at 365nm.

How do you drive it? Slow and steady, stop start?

Not really slow, but at the limit. I'm not scared to give it some beans. My work commute is 4.7 miles of city driving. Stopping at approx 8 sets of traffic lights. I travel back home often to see family which is 500 mile round trip on motorways, I just stick cruise on at 65/70mph.

nice amount of torque

I have a 06 plate with a BLT, and when I got it mapped I was initially a little disappointed with it. However, when I drove it more I realised just how much quicker it was... as some said above 'deceptively quick'. There was quite a difference over the standard car, so personally I'm not convinced that mine had any more than the quoted standard power. Plus I've driven ASZ's before and they seemed about the same.

Obviously this forum does not condone 'racing' as such, but let's be honest we all have a play on the road, or what's the point in us buying them! After my stage 1 Shark map I had several run ins with both EP3 and FN2 Civic Type R's. The result was pretty similar on all accounts - pretty much a dead heat from a rolling 2nd gear start to high figures. I had 1 EP3 start to ever so slightly pull away as treble figures approached, but it was modded (not sure what though - exhaust at the minimum). I'm now at pre-stage 2 (PD150 hybrid) currently running about 200bhp de-tuned for standard clutch and SMIC (for now!), and have come across several EP3's and even an EK9 Type R, and come 4th gear I'm pulling on them now.

Personally (and I'm sure the same applies to many people on here), I'm 30 now and could afford to go out and buy some petrol munching crazy hot hatch, such as a RS or something, but I still choose to stick with this little Fabia. I genuinely fail to see what car could offer me the all round performance, practicality and economy for the sort of money it cost me! If I want something silly quick then I'll just jump on the bike (not in this weather mind!!). No matter what anyone buys, you'll always come across something quicker on the road anyway....   The only thing that I think lets the Fabia down is the handling. Yes it's not shocking, but it's certainly not in the same league as the more focused hot hatches - decent coilovers, RARB, brakes and preferably a diff would be required to get even close to most of the aforementioned cars.

I'd get a map if I were you, as it sounds like you'll appreciate it, BUT BE WARNED... you will soon get used to it and want more. Then it starts to get expensive....   However, you'll still be getting at least 45mpg ;-)

Mine's close to knocking onto 100k now (sad times!), but I'll not be getting shut any time soon and I'm sure I'll see well over 200k with no serious issues other than the clutch (which I'm changing soon). Happy days :-)

That post makes me happy :)

Go and spend a few K on a bike, I think the urgency of trying to push the max car wise tends to disappears when chasing the ever illusive performance is so much easier on a fast bike than a fast car (with limited finances)

As most of us will be aware most bikes blow away whatever car anyone is in anyway. Its far closer to supercar performance for hot hatch money and if you've never tried it, you'll never know

Although I wonder with getting old disgracefully whether I ought to play it safe and hang the keys up on that at some point, after all speed isn't everything (0-60 sub 3 seconds)
