Does Re-mapping a vrs make it "hot"

Featured Replies

so i'm wanting to get the fabia mapped at crimbo, that's when i'll be able to afford it in all honesty, good things come to those who wait and all that.

my question is does a stage 1 map make these things feel a little more of a "hot hatch" rather than a "luke-warm" one, im after a civic type-r killer in a way, and i know that at absolute best a stage 1 map would be 180bhp / 300lb/ft. but more realistically 170/175bhp and 280lb/ft. Does it make a massive difference? i know that seems like a silly question but i plan on keeping this car for a while, and dont want to get bored of it. At the same time, i would like to know that if some hooligan in a civic / clio 182 etc comes up behind me, i could leave them in a smokey cloud.

any stories of those at stage 1 would be lovely :)

i also plan a RARB kit at crimbo too, so the handling should improve a bit too

Cheers

Chris

i all honesty at stage 1 your not going to leave a civic type r or a clio sport

I don't think a remap will make it a Type-R killer, you'll need a bigger ..... lots of money!

 does a map make a massive difference though? it's a lot of money to spend and be dissapointed

You've an SE - so it will already be approx 150hp ?

Will it be dynamite difference ? I'd doubt it myself (20hp the lowest difference)

Perception doesn't count for jack - 0-60 / 50-70 / 70-90 times do. It would be far more useful to clarify in exact figures difference between BLT and remapped.

I would have thought personally that coming from a BLT you'd have to be looking at the top end remap figures to really get a perceivably large difference, even to stage 2

Then you might even be thinking its more effective to look at a different car, maybe a petrol if you really want to drive around blowing everyone away with your performance.

In gear the vRS would appear to be faster 50-70 already, so why worry unless you are the kind of person that really worries about standing 0-60 times. Completely different beast IMO

it makes a noticeable difference, make sure its a 6th gear rolling start race at 1500rpm and you are laughing, anything else or anything with a corner and you are screwed lol

I got 15 Bhp from stage 1 map 150 - 165 and it was noticeable, the torque was nice and boost to the top of the rev range nice, but as said no type r killer

to make a vrs ''hot'' you will have to be prepared to spent a decent lump of money

Yes and no! Mine is standard but my mate has a mapped Fabia which I test drove for him. Obviously the map will make it quicker, but for me, because of how smooth the power delivery is after a map, I was a little underwhelmed. So much so that I wont get a remap on my car until I get a bigger blower

im definitely not a 0-60 traffic light race kind of guy, but on a drive, going through the gears etc it's nice to have a bit more grunt, i love the torque of the diesel and the economy too, just would like a bit more grunt :)

i'll probably go ahead with it anyway, just wanted my expectations managed lol

I only got rid of my type r due to commuting 200 miles a week to work.

Wish id of kept it in a way but it is a totally different car and the cost saving is alot tax and mpg wise!

I havent had a go against anything yet other than the new style clio sport 10 plate it was and I left him from 30-40 onwards.

No.

you need a 2.0 petrol 'Mustang-slayer' if you want a hot Fabia :)

i thought the 2.0 was only 115 bhp so surely a standard vrs would see off a 2.0 easily

You must be mistaken Holmesie as the 2.0 Fabia had over 500 fire breathing horses :giggle:

A standard blt se fabia was neck and neck with my mapped asz engine (176bhp rr verified)

With a map you'll stick close to a ctr but once they get up and running its bye bye

so i'm wanting to get the fabia mapped at crimbo, that's when i'll be able to afford it in all honesty, good things come to those who wait and all that.

Ummm....

Cheaper to sell it and buy something a little more sporty to start with. £4K-£5K could easily vanish otherwise, chasing CTR killer performance.

Something based on Golf MK4 chassis or Mk5 chassis is a good starting point.

J.

Clio 182 and 172's are very light though, just a smidgen over a tonne. Even if you got past him at a traffic light grand prix he'd lose you in the twisties!

182/172 are slow as

I mullered a cammed one in my yellow diesel skoda lol

I embarrassed some guy and his girlfriend in a 197, even got the flash and wave when I started pulling away lol.

Friend has a CTR with quite a bit of work done to it, running 240bhp verified at TDi north a well known civic tuning company. Never really had a good go with him but on the way to 10 of the best coming off the roundabouts and things he said he just couldn't keep up with me, all about being in the right gear at the right time in those things thow I guess

Not a ******* a chance.

A remap makes its a 'warm' hatch.

These days a hot hatch is a focus RS.

Whatever you do to the fabia it just wont handle as well but you will keep up and pass one in a straight line if you go down the hybrid route which is in the region of 2-3k anyways.

Then the CTR puts on better suspension, braces etc and has the I/E/M/R which takes it to 240 and then its as quick as a hybrid fabia.

These fabia's are great little cars with a remap, RARB, coilovers and you'll leave things like a saxo VTS and kept up with a 172 in a straight line but anything more powerful you won't.

I'd just do the above and be happy with a good little car overall with good mpg, low insurance, quick, cheap to run and looks pretty good.

So you can do anything if you have the money

it makes a noticeable difference, make sure its a 6th gear rolling start race at 1500rpm and you are laughing, anything else or anything with a corner and you are screwed lol

And you will rip your clutch to pieces in the process doing that!

Hahahahaha only just seen that post, never buy a car of that guy lol.

If you want the biggest feel for speed in a fab. I think 3rd gear build up to 2.5k and just floor it. Although 2nd can be pretty fun if you catch the torque right. Thats my view anyway different people with different maps might feel different.

This ^^

Feels unstoppable when you get it right.

My vRS SE was 139.9bhp on sharks dyno a few weeks back.
