Is this normal

Featured Replies

As I drove to work this morning I noticed that my fuel light was on, checked the range 45 miles, should be enough to get me to the shell garage 10 miles away.

About a mile from the garage the interior and exterior lights dimmed, abs light, airbag light and esc light came on!!! I filled the car with petrol but when I went to start it I got nothing. Not enough power to turn it over. Fortunately managed to jump it and it drove okay with all the warning lights turning themselves off.

Is this normal procedure if the fuel gets too low or shoudl I be worried?

It suggests that the sprague clutch on the alternator stuck "open" for some reason.

If you check fault codes you'll probably have loads for all the systems with ECUs, but if you get decent charge showing with the engine idling and electrics off there's nothing to worry about.

Check the charge rate at the battery. Could be a faulty battery, alternator or wiring

Oh, and no, it doesn't do this when the fuel gets low

Fuse box on top of battery

Check it make sure its not a melted mess

Had a look at the fuse box and the 110 fuse and black wire on the left is looking a bit black, not broken but looks bad compared the the other 4. Is this the fuse for the alternator?
