Trolley Jacking Point ?

Featured Replies

I've got my nice new TS850 winter tyres and steel rims ready to put ion my Superb Estate when the temperature drops a tad .

I bought a trolley jack to make the job easier but can't seem to find the jacking point . Apart from the jack point for the screw jack , all the area in the immediate surround seems to be plastic fascia and protection .

Is there a marked area designed for a trolley jack ?

Can't answer your question, but can give you a tip if you are new to using trolley jacks.

Buy one of these, (an ice-hockey puck) and sit it on the cup / plate of the jack. It will resist slipping when you jack the car, and will also reduce damage to the underseal coating where you choose to lift the car. It will only compress by a small amount - they are very hard rubber!.

Have you cut a slot in your puck so that the seam fits in it?

I did!

Me too - I made two.  Works a treat.

Re. the jacking point, they may be marked with a small triangle.  I only found one of mine though, as they're coated with underseal.  In the end I just put the jack in the approximate area shown in the manual and it worked fine.

Thanks guys.

I've looked in the manual and the only jack points shown are the sills and I haven't got the tools to cut a groove in a puck.

Only bought the trolley jack as I read on here in the winter tyres thread that a trolley jack was much better and easier to use than the screw jack and sill method.

Damn-looks like I'll have to go back to Plan A.

Anybody want a nice unopened trolley jack ??

If you don't have a block of rubber/hockey puck just use a scrap piece of wood, like the good old days :)

I bought a bunch of rubber blocks with slots cut in from 1engel333 on ebay and distributed them around family and friends.

Yup - bit of wood works wonders!  Done it this way for many years.

I use a scrap piece of wood coated in a couple of layers of an old rubber car mat that I cut into strips.  helps protect the sill when using a trolley jack.

I'm going to use a bit of wood-went to my local garage today and they said that the only safe jacking point is on the sills as you would use with the screw jack,so I'll use wood etc.

Think I'm going to fit them next few days as going to busy with work and then laid up with a knee op so now or never.

Not sure what the big fuss is waiting for the temperature to drop.

I know the tyres work best in +7 degs and below but my previous car came with mud and snow tyres as OE fitment and they were on 24/7 all year for 4 years before I bought a second set of wheels.

Mud & Snow tyres are not the same as winter (Mountain & Snowflake symbol) tyres. The requirements for getting the latter are stricter.

But yeah, I regularly travel to a country that have hotter summers and colder winters than the UK and about 1/4 cars run modern winters all year round without issue.

Well,I've done it-to hell with it.

The jack worked fine with a block of wood.

Took 40 minutes to fit all 4.Think they look ok with the wheel trims !!
