VRS front brakes lasted 60K miles

Featured Replies

Well that was an expensive day

Bought 2 year service plan @ £349 (oil change service, inspection service inc plugs and filters, MOT and brake fluid change)

Had air con service £69

replaced centre real light which was intermittent £34

And ta dah finally at 60,000 miles replaced the front discs and pads - that is exceptional for a car of this weight, carrying at times largish loads, and remapped £249. Boy are they shiny now !

All on Skoda fixed price maintenance - Skoda Colbournes Peasmarsh

Happy but £701 less in the wallet!

I replaced my front disc's & pads on my vrs at around 45,000miles,there was still lots of life left in the pads but the disc's were corroded on the inside edge,i paid around £60 for my disc's & pads & fitted them myself.

£249 for discs and pads!

£53! Fitted myself about 30mins each side.

Surely that's about £150 labour they have charged for 40mins work with ramp access.

I have done 100K miles on my Yeti, it has only just had rear pads and discs but the fronts are still as they left the factory, impressive in deed.

Doesn't sound right to me that the rears needed doing before the front.

rears were replaced because of scoring on the discs, fronts have about 6mm on them.  I have every receipt for servicing from new,

20K oil and filter

40K oil and filter

60K oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter

80K oil and filter, also Haldex oil change and filter

100K oil and filter + rear pads and discs.

Warranty work= 1 drivers side heated seat pad.

Tyres

on the fourth set, Dunlop from new, Bridgestone twice and now Continentals.

Not bad for 26 months of motoring.

I had to replace the rear pads due to scoring...caught it early enough to save the discs. Done 50k and still on original front discs and pads. Will be buying pagid discs and pads once they need replaced and fit them myself....far cheaper than skoda prices!

Discs and pads for 53 quid. Not Oem quality I would guess.

I don't do work on the car I am afraid. No equipment so that would all have to be purchased. In 27 years of driving I have changed only 3 sets of front pads (mini in 1989, nova 1994, more vrs, 1 set of discs front - the vrs. And 2 sets of rear disc and pads a BMW Mini 2006 and the vrs in 2011. Hardly worth the cost of the equipment.

Both the vrs and mini needed rear discs and pads first. In both cases it was said the fronts were over engineered

I was happy with 249 the national rate. Part were 170. Similar to cost of ebc. Dearer than pagid from Euro car parts. Given oem lasted 7 years and 60,000 miles I was not going to look anywhere else

Got pagid on the rear and had no issues. Also fitted pagid discs and pads on my wife's car with no problems. Used pagid on various cars over the years from standard stuff through to race pads. Suppose everyone has their own preference. You could just have had a bad set of pads. Interestingly when I bought my vrs it had done 20k miles and the rear discs were heavily scored. They got replaced under warranty and have done about 28k before starting to score again. Seems strange to have two sets of oe discs and pads have the same issue within similar mileage.

Ive got Pagid discs & pads on my octy & have had no problems with them.

No way would I ever buy Pagid pads again. I bought some for my Octavia hatch over 12 months ago, and replaced them again (under parts warranty) within 3 weeks with Bosch pads from Euro Car Parts as the Pagid ones squealed horrendously whenever they were used, wet or dry, hot or cold. Never had any further problems since the Bosch ones went in.

Recently replaced front and rear pads on the estate with Bosch parts, once again from Euro Car Parts. Cost £37 for the full set with the PARTS25 promotion code.No problems whatever with the Bosch pads on this car either.

The PARTS25 code on ECP doesn't work anymore I have just tried it. I need to do the front discs and pads on my VRS soon as it is starting to have a rust buildup near the edge. I think they are 312mm discs on the FL VRS TDI can anyone confirm this ?

Parts 25 code isn't working because they have done a discount over the whole site at the moment so no need for discount codes.

£53 was for non OEM, but even OEM textar ones were only about £80 all in with discount.

£249 is a total rip off the labour is well over £100 per hour. Buy the parts and get a local garage to fit at £50 per hour. The local garage will do it quicker too.
