1.9 TDI Preventative Work

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2004 1.9tdi 130 Elegance with 96,000m on the clock. My 3rd Skoda over the years!

I have some time on my hands before I start my new job, and was wondering if you have any suggestions for preventative work I should carry out?

Full service? Always a good place to start.

Oil and filters. If a cambelt's due, change the water pump as well (the belt has to come off to change the pump and the pump's likely life is about 1.5x the belt interval so it saves time/money).

Good point, think it was last done 7000 miles ago, so freshening it up wouldn't hurt.

Cambelt was done at around 70,000 from the history, so that should be fine for a bit.

Anything likely to be clogged up at this mileage? EGR?

Gear box oil? Not on the schedule but can't hurt at this mileage.

Definitely worth cleaning out the EGR and intake manifold if your handy. Perhaps check the intercooler for oil build up. A little is supposedly normal but worth cleaning it out.

I think I can tackle these, any decent guides available?

Good call, thanks. I'm guessing there's no filter, just the oil.

Nope. Just 2 plugs, a drain and a fill. I'm about to do the same on my PD100, ordered 2 bottles of Red Line MT-90 Gear Oil 946ml.
