already remapped now want a decat?

Featured Replies

So I've read about having a remapped car then fitting a decat is bad or atleast on a standard turbo, as this caused the turbo to over spool, so if I was to get my car mapped after the decat will it be okay? Bearing in mind I already have a mufflerectomy.

What is the reason for it to be mapped again? I believe my map is just a generic map that's slightly tweaked for my car, so are they just slightly turning down the boost or what I'm a little confused ha. It's a mk1 fabia vrs.

I don't see how a map will change anything ha :(

Modern ECU's are complicated things, but ultimately they will just read a set of parameters and apply relevant fuel and timing settings to best achieve the target map.

A cat removal should make no real difference (apart from give more power!). If the turbo spools up faster thats great, the ECU will just adjust accordingly by altering fuelling, the bmv etc. Id be suprised if a cat removal made such a difference it went beyond the range of the ecu's tables.

A custom map is always best, but a generic one is fine

in its simplist form a remap is more aggressive timing and more boost. e.g A tuner could just turn up the target boost and let the ecu/oe map do the rest.

Yeah I sorta see what you mean, so even a small mod should really get 'mapped' in to the ecu to acomidate really

I had mine mapped then decatted and it has been fine :)

Well say was I've since had a hybrid turbo so it's been mapped again!

Alot of it i've read can be hit an miss, i've herd people been absolutly fine for humpteen miles but other have said its not worth the risk on standard turbo.. I suppose it is how you drive it I guess

I would like a hybrid at some stage but i'd like to do it on my account not when my turbo dies, as this would usually happen at the worst time haha

A remap will up the boost so that does potentially shorten the life of the turbo as itll be being worked harder.

tuners shouldnt really release generic maps that kill turbos tho.

Im guessing there Diesals? maybe on the fabias with a small turbo running high pressure from the factory its already close to what it can take?

decat shouldnt make a difference as the map will have a target boost that it wont exceed. If the decat allows easier/faster spool up the ecu will just release some pressure to keep it stable. All youll get is more power for the same boost level.
