Conti 850's on Superb, Tyre Pressure?

Featured Replies

Just put a set of Conti 850's 205/55/16 94V on a Skoda Superb. Anyone go the recommended tyre pressures to run hese bad boys on?

Thanks

Try looking at the sticker behind the fuel filler flap !!!

Usually you run winters at 0.2bar more than the normal pressure setting for the tyre size fitted; as above should be on the filler flap and also check the handbook (section in there on winters).

Thanks, running 205/55/16 so it was supposed to be 2.6 but for winters 2.8 (38psi). Good thing I checked as the garage had set them at 29 :whew:  :whew: . Thanks for help.

I'm sorry that you thought I offered the incorrect advice !!

If you had bothered to look behind your filler flap you would have seen this :

As you will see,the 205/55 R16 tyres is listed.

Ok,it doesn't account for the .2 bar difference for a winter tyre but you will also note that the recommended pressures vary widely depending on load, especially at the rear where there is a difference of .7 bar for 2 extra passengers and luggage.

So,as you are obviously rather anal,if you think my advice was incorrect, you will need to interpolate, and if you carry an extra passenger then up your rear pressures by .3 for each passenger.Obviously if you travel solo, then you will over-inflated by a fair bit !!!

Don't forget that a 4 degree (Celsius) temperature change will alter a tyre pressure by about 2 pounds,so you will need to check your pressures on a daily basis,I would suggest.

Hope this is more help.

Actually,it's quite cold out today, best you slip on that anorak first !!

Yawn.... :wall:

OK so his response may have been a bit ‘to the point’ BUT it is the most factual one.

So lets draw a line under this one please.

  • 4 months later...

I have 225 40 r18 summer tyres on mine now. With the pressure of 2.7 on the front tyres I still find the ride a bit "searching". Is there any harm in stepping the pressure up to 3.0?

You might get slightly increased centre wear but I've never seen any harm in experimenting with higher tyre pressures to get the ideal grip/ride/response combination.
