Yet replacement tyres?

Featured Replies

Looking to replace the Dunlop SP Sport 01 tyres that came as standard (new) on my Yeti. Tyres are 225/50 R17 94W.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Hi and welcome,

don't say where you are based or what your after from your tyres, however you could try the new Uniroyal Rainsport 3 or if you are somewhere that gets a bit cold or maybe snows then try the Goodyear Vector 4Season.

I have had the Dunlops from new, they did 36,000 miles and all 4 were replaced, I then had Bridgestone Potenza, these were quite good but only 28,000 miles before they wore out, I had Bridgestone again and now have Continental which are about the worst for road noise, grip and overall feel of the car, can't wait to scrub them off and go back to the Dunlop or Bridgestone.

I  know quite a few of our Yeti fraternity have Pirelli but I can't comment on them as I have never had them.

Old Yeti came with Dunlops, which lasted well (combined with Winters).  Switched to Khumo KU39s, which were marginally quieter and more efficient, and had a less autobahn orientated tread pattern.

New Yeti has arrived with Pirelli P zero rossos, but not driven enough to comment on them yet.

Ever since the Goodyear's wore out I've fitted Kumho KU39's and some nearly 60k miles later I am very happy with them

Thanks for all the tyre suggestions - BTW has anyone tried Michelins on a 2WD Yeti 2.0 TDI 110, which is the car I have?

Not ecstatic about the 225/50 R17 Dunlops to be honest (although they've lasted some 30,000 miles).

Probably too late now, but thinking that the smaller 16 inch, 60-section wheels/tyres would give a smoother overall ride?

Vector 4Seasons all the way pal :hi:

It would depend on what you mean by 'smoother'.  The rolling circumference is virtually the same, so there's no geometric difference in behavior over routine lumps and bumps, or even off-roadability.  However, there is more elasticity in the higher wall of the 16" x 60, which to some of us is a significant help in damping the shocks of indifferent-to-poor local rural roads, both to the car's mechanicals and the occupants' physicals :S .

The latest debate was here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/278794-opening-a-can-of-worms-again/ .  It will be a while before someone tries to get 16's on their new FL!

Very happy with my choices, which you can see below.

My philosophy is to select the best rated tyre for wet performance - both in winter and summer tyres, providing you live in Northern Europe. the Michelin summers have been just great s have the Goodyear winters.
