Custom Code Remap

Has anyone had a Custom Code remap?

My local VAG non franchise service garage is offering these. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of Custom Code?

Unless it's custom code from the same people as you're dealing with, there's no way of being sure what you get is comparable in any way to custom code anyone else is using unfortunately. My car has a custom remap and is excellent. It sailed through the Irish MOT last Saturday with emissions at less than 1/12th of the alloweable smoke after over 4 years and 40,000 miles on the remap.

Remapped, my PD105 engine pulls well enough that the CR170 is the only diesel engine worth upgrading to in the range, which has me looking at Superbs even though they're bigger than I need, as the lowered suspension on the VRS makes the car useless to me :(.

Keep in mind that a remap can only be properly customised if the car is tested on a rolling road as the map is modified to confirm the map is tweaking things correctly.

I think the OP was talking about "Custom Code" as in JBS based in Chesterfield, not a custom remap.

My local VAG specialists 'used' to do Custom Code remaps, but have now switched to 'DNA Tuning' Remaps. When I asked him about them, he told me that the DNA Remaps are much better than the CC remaps, regarding the Leon, Cupra & Octavias to name a few.

My car had a Custom Code remap on it when I bought it. Was far too peaky and jerky round town. Took it to a local tuning company and found that it was producing 212bhp and 390 lb ft of torque, explains the peakiness! That's far too high for normal use and I wasn't happy with the amount of torque, so the local tuning company (Big Fish Tuning in Stokesley, North Yorkshire) turned the torque down to 357 lb ft, DPF off, EGR off, much smoother and no performance hit. Should be safer on standard clutch and DMF too. So the Custom Code map was not very good on my car PD170 vRS.

I had the custom code remap and dpf off around 3 years ago, yes it's like an on off switch in work boots, but I can drive it around town fine. No problems with the clutch or flywheel

Just saw you arein the South West, are you thinking about RK Engineering, I know they are custom code agents. I considered a custom code map from them but heard reports similar to the experiences above, a very peaky on/off map. I'm still to get mine done but I'm thinking of a Bluefin or Shark STS at the moment.

If it is RK engineering have you used them for anything else? Was thinking of going there for my servicing in the future.

Mark.

I had the Bluefin on mine the map is very good, maybe not the best but certainly not giving out bonkers numbers and never seen the DPF light either, Sharks map is another one that has gotten rave reviews on here in the past.

I've used RK for the last 5-6 years, they looked after my MK1 vRS for around 5, my current car (non-vag) and will continue with my new car (Octavia MK2 vRS bought a couple of weeks ago).

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Simon is the chap I normally deal with, very knowledgeable and have always been happy with their work and prices...
