EGR cleaner

Featured Replies

Hi All

Being a new owner of a 59 reg Octavia 1.6 tdi cr (my first ever Skoda), i have discovered that these engines can suffer with faulty EGRs. At the moment my car is running just fine with 44000 on the clock and a full Skoda service history.

My question is, what are the symptoms of a failing EGR and can they be stripped down, cleaned and reassembled, im very handy with the spanners. Also are there any other issues i should look out for.

Regards

Main symtom is loss in power, especialy in low revs. You can take them off the car and clean them as they build up with soot etc causing the flap to stick

Hi

Sorry to ask but reg59 is what year

Or if someone could give me some insight on it.

No need to worry, all cars have issues especially if you are.a city driver.

We have a member that has one from 2012 with 136k on it.

Of the record, Audi are terrible on these. Local parts dealer(Audi/vw/Skoda) has only ordered 2 for.Octavia . Lost count for other 2 makes. I have said this before,.although some will disagree, just drive it almost like a petrol and you won't have any trouble. Mine is from 2010 and has 80k on it. On it's second set of tires and the front pads were changed at the 68k mark(it still.had pad left but the damm light on dash was on/off.

59 covers the months from september 09 to end of feb 10

I am still contemplating cleaning my EGR, I have cleaned many PD EGRs but I have never had to clean a CR one. If anyone has any experience on cleaning CR egrs I would like to hear how good or bad they are

I recently had mine "deleted". Before it used to have no power low down, stutter on acceleration and feel like the turbo was even not working.

Now its like a different car and fixed all the above issues. Certainly worth cleaning it if you are having any issues

Ryan-re,

I am not having issues, I just can't help wondering how good or bad it is. In the end its going to get the better of me and I am just going to have to take it off and have a look. Someone with a 2.0 TDI CR engine must of had this off before.

Anyone ?

if it starts to give problems in the future I will just strip it, clean it and put It back together.
