Felicia 1.3 Oil Filler Cap really loose?

Featured Replies

Hi all, noticed a couple weeks back that the engine oil filler cap on the Mrs skoda felicia 1.3 was missing so I ordered a replacement from ebay here.. As you can see, it is just a topper with no threads and a rubber ring.. I fit the rubber ring to the cap and the cap to the opening but it is very loose and feels like general driving will rattle this thing out in no time..

I'm just wondering if anyone has an image of how the rubber ring is supposed to be fitted to the cap in case i have done it wrong (i just fit it into the first lip instead of forcing it up the cap further), or else can someone confirm that this is just the design of it and it is supposed to be a loose fit as I can't remember what way the old one was...

This is how it should look like. I remember having to insert one more O-ring into that gasket to keep the cap from rattling.

OK, looks like I need to try to get the ring up over that first lip so.. Didn't want to force it in case i broke it..

Thanks for the image :)

Total newby but enthusiastic. It just happens that the Nescafe classic coffee 200g lid is a snug fit.

Although not an officially approved part, it works for me.

The not so snug fit part blew off many moons ago. Although I'm sure it's not a gas tight fit anyway

The rocker cover doesn't appear to be over-pressurising and I have cleaned the breather pipes.

Hope this helps if you're stuck for a cap. :)

I see Skoda part dealers going bankrupt.

I will now go to my local grocery shop buy a coolant expansion reservoir from the milk department.

now seriously, how cheap is cheap?

Apologies, It was my first post on this very useful and recently discovered forum.

I know it's cheap but it originated as a stop-gap and has remained ever since and performs the function of stopping  the oil from spitting the underneath of the bonnet.

If the original part has another function, I really would like to know, especially from the experts to discuss gas pressures., interference fits, plastic degradation due to heat etc..

I considered it to be a non-critical part, I won't be replacing the engine mounts with driftwood quite just yet :)

Custom and modding is often retasking existing materials to perform an alternative function, often less expensive than a shop bought solution ???

Thx dohnjoe for the milk carton jest, It it widely perceived that the prerequisite to being a felly owner is a sense of humour. :) :)

btw there are 3 liter milk jugs from plastic that I was referring to.

Guess what I found after all the ice had melted.

Jammed between the starter motor and the under-the-grill bit of plastic MY OIL FILLER CAP, lost for almost 12months.

It is now an ashtray in my office. The coffee lid stays where it is. :)

The moral is: If you drop a spanner/very small nut-bolt under the bonnet, be prepared to be looking for a long time and adopt yoga positions to find it.
