...and it's done. I have ordered an Octavia VRS Estate today, diesel, DSG to replace my Golf Mk6 GTD and prepare for the additional space required in a number of months time.

Spec is:

Candy white

Anthracite alloys

Black pack

Red Stitching

Columbus

Bluetooth plus

Parking assist

Cruise control (sadly still no ACC)

Sunset windows

Sunroof

Winter pack

Power boot

Kessy

Crew protection

...and that's it.

Did I miss anything obvious? Any other tips that are worth knowing at the ordering stage?

I read something about rear seat release needing to be specified?

Would appreciate your comments.

Thank you

If there is something you really would like on the car then make sure it is on the order form in black and white then if there is a problem you can get back to them and tell them to sort it out to your satisfaction.

That's a great spec ! Might be a long wait with some of those options but it will definitely be worth it !

I would suggest you get a spare wheel aswell.

Ordered a vRS hatch yesterday - when have you been told to expect yours? (March for me.)

Mid - February for me. Although having read my way through the forum, that seems to be an overly optimistic estimate.

As already suggested, definitely spec a full size spare!

Nah spare wheel is a waste of money. It adds unnecessary weight which will add .314 secs to my journey to work....

I specced a spare wheel and I just 'feel better' after having the foam on our last car (which admittedly we never needed!).

When we were thousands of miles away in Europe the thought of being stranded at the side of the road with no spare waiting for foreign breakdown would make me very uneasy!

I'd pick Canton and a spare wheel ahead of some of your choices.

Another vote for a spare wheel.

Anyone who doesn't carry a spare wheel hasn't been sat at the side of a wet, dark and windy road with their wife and kids in the car trying to fill a tyre with a can of squirty cream with HGV's hammering past 6 inches off your back pockets.

Or had the tyre fall off the rim all together!! That was fun! Can of squirt is as trustworthy as the skoda factory build allocation system!

Very good point silver1011...spare wheel added...thank you all for the advice.

I had considered the Canton too, however, it is yet another £400 which I'd have to pay in cash as I don't want to undo the whole finance "deal".

I will ponder that one for a bit. It's not like the car will be built tomorrow...or in fact this year.

I'd have Canton over KESSY any day

Why would adding Canton undo the whole finance deal?  Don't get that?  Whilst you get a quote for the car and options at the time of ordering, it only becomes valid with a final figure when you collect the car and put your PX in (presuming you have a PX), as if that is on finance then you would of made a few more payments etc so the outstanding finance is less etc etc??

I got an original figure, when I ordered which included the options I wanted at the time, then I have added a couple of other options, then with the extra payments made on the finance on my PX etc even with the added options my monthly payment will still be lot less than what I was quoted when I ordered the car?

No part exchange for me.

As far as I understand, I have signed an order form for the car and agreed a finance deal. If I add anything it will increase the monthly payments even though you could argue that some of it might be compensated by the increased GMFV.

Adding Canton wouldn't strictly undo the deal but would change the monthly payment. having spend ages at the dealership I do not want to do have to renegotiate it.
