Sat Nav in 2012 VRS

Featured Replies

Is this a stand alone unit, order something that is built in?  Toying with the idea of getting a VRS and not sure whether the need to spec one with Sat nav, or its something that can be retro fitted at later date.

If you need sat Nav then spec it within your build as after reading a thread on here, you are unable to retrofit it.

Currently, as Andrew has rightly said it's a factory fit option only, but that's not to say in a year or so's time you might be able to buy the new Columbus or Admunsen unit & get the dealer to retrofit it.

But to be quite honest, I think that at either £1350 for the Columbus or £800 for the Admunsen they are expensive for what they are and you would be better off buying a normal TomTom or Garmin unit at £200-300 for a top of the range one and get lifetime map updates with it & traffic as well.

The only advantage from a built in one is no trailing wires.

I was fearing you might say that, and its not a the case of easy retro fit as per it was when I had a Mk5 golf a few years ago.

If I was to get a new car I would need it to have sat nav, as last three cars has had sat navs built in. While I totally agree with the above that it makes sense to get portable nav unit, to me I feel lost without one now built in...  one of things that heart rules the head.

After I placed my order I then decided to have it, but it was too late for me to have it fitted as the order was locked down, so I haven't got it this time.

The good thing about a portable one, is that you can load speed camera locations into them, which you can't do very easily with a built in system.

I may be mistaken here but the OP isn't asking about a mk3 Octy as he mentions one of 2012 ilk.

If it is actually of that age then yes is possible to retrofit and they're just like he had in his Golf.

:giggle:

As it's for a 2012 model & the Mk2, then perhaps a moderator may care to move it to the correct section.
