what could it be?

Featured Replies

Having  purchased  the car 10 months ago it seems to be a money pit. It  has had a full service, thermostat and TCS. Car was on and off power so after some research booked it in with skoda for a coilpack recall. Car ran smoother but still not right. Done some more research and decided to unplug the maf and it did run a lot better so ordered a new one from the dealers. Again a slight change but not quite right. Done a scan and got 17705 so booked car into local specialist who fitted new DV. Car ran spot on for a week and then went back to how it was before. Cleaned out TB and replaced gasket and again car ran super smooth for a week or so. Replaced boost valve, spark plugs and fuel filter but no joy. Started to check breather pipes, removed and cleaned out Y pipe, replaced S pipe as broke a peace off and found a split pipe under the manifold next to dip stick. Again it made an improvement but now seems to be getting worst. Don’t know if it’s due to the weather change but it’s like it was then I first got it. I will be booking it in to the garage over the next 2 weeks and if they can’t find out what it is I think its time to get rid as the golf I had for 7 years before had no problems. Any ideas that I haven’t tried?

Thanks

Ron

Has it been mapped?

No standard but had plans to map it.

Clive at Cntuning is local ish to you. Get it there and get it sorted

If you've done all that and still have the 17705 code it will more then likely but the OME map on the car . Ive had mine mapped out at R-tech .

Do the brake lights work correctly?

Do the brake lights work correctly?

Yes

Why, what could that mean

Yes

Why, what could that mean

If the brake light switch is duff it can cause all sorts of problems. Replacing it solved loads of issues on my car

Never heard of a failed brake light switch causing 17705.

You've probably still got a split or poorly secured vacuum/boost pipe somewhere. A smoke test would be a wise move.

It's a long read but covers pretty much every angle of 17705. http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/170257/1115840.aspx#1115840

Thanks for that, getting that next week.
