Should a 57 plate Vrs have a warning light come on when the window wash fluid is low ?

Only if you have xenon lights fitted as standard otherwise no. Someone on here did retrofit one and coded it.

No my 59 fl doesn't have one. If you do a search there is a thread on how to fit a low level indicator.

I just fill mine up when its empty.

Am I thinking of the Fabia mk1 then?

i think some do have a smaller bottles, but there is no logic when it comes to parts on some cars
