Which quick detailer....

Featured Replies

As per title... I'm looking to get another quick detailer. I've been using Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer over the summer, but I've found it a bit of a pain to get off. The process wasn't so 'quick' by the time I was finished.

So which ones are people using and rate please? I'm looking for something that is genuinely quick to apply and remove, as I don't get a lot of free time. Plus the light is rubbish over the next few months!

Cheers all!

Get Chemical guys pro detailer. It's really good!

I find a lot are a pain to use. Try the autoglym one, to be honest I think its perfect!

That's what I use.

Not sure if it's the best as I've only used a few, but it's easy to use and leaves a nice finish.

Bought time we polished Ambrosia again isn't it Andy?

Couple of weeks ago I spent all weekend cleaning her. Washed, cleaner wax, 2 coats of jet seal 109,  Hydra Waxed

She's sealed up for the winter, hopefully. Eric the CitiGo has had the same treatment

Nice one

I'm a big big advocate of Sonax Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer. It's somewhere between a QD and a spray sealant easy on/off slightly glassy shine and protects like no other QD I have used. I chop and change products fairly often out of curiosity but haven't even looked at another QD in 12 months.

Had this out again yesterday and it never fails to impress, and it smells good.

Was a recommendation through detailing world where there are plenty of reviews up.

Cheers for the tips guys.

Definitely gonna give one or more of the above a try.

I washed the car yesterday, and it got dirty today on the commute due to the rain. So OCD me gave it a 'quick' detail when I got home. There was nothing quick about it - it took me 30 minutes to do it :-/

How long do people take to give their car a quick going over?? Am I just being fussy? I'm hoping it's due partially to the QD I'm currently using being a pain to get off.

30 minutes :sun:

Personally if it took that long your car 'might' have been a spot dirtier than I would be comfy using a QD to clean. How much grime was coming off onto the microfiber? Mine are generally still clean looking after a full car QD.

I can snow foam, rinse, wash, rinse and QD in 30 mins.

This was a question I was going to ask as well funny enough! I haven't machine polished the car yet, so I wasn't too fussed. However, I do think it was a bit too dirty. It was sparkly clean last night, but got a bit of crap from the rain on it today on the bottom of the doors. The microfiber cloths definitely weren't clean after I'd finished put it that way....

Jesus, do you run around the car when you do it !?!! No chance I could do all that in 30 minutes! Do you pressure wash or is it just with a hose / attachment?

I almost sort of don't see the point in using a QD over the winter months if this is the case to be honest. As it's literally taken 1 commute to and from work today, and it needs me to drag the hose and buckets out again...   Summer months when it's dry then fair enough, as you'll just be getting rid of dust and a bit of smoke on the diesels.

QD refreshes and prolongs your LSP after a wash ...I usually use it as a drying aid

Its not meant to be a stand alone product

I've been finding AD direct products are very good and will be trying their QD shortly

I use angel wax qd, find it quick and easy to use and seems to last well.

Part of the reason I love the Sonax so much, it could to my mind nearly cut it as a standalone.

Fully agree on the use though, after a wash is the key part, I see too many people confusing QD and waterless wash and wax type products. Cars look great until you get close and inspect the swirly goodness. Even more evident if you strip the LSP.

On timings for winter wash, I run a slightly weak or water biased snow foam as I find it lifts more of the heavy dirt off, whereas in summer I like stronger mix for dwell time to combat bugs and tree sap.

Snow foam five minutes dwell and rinse. Ten-fifteen minute run around using TBM to wash and rinse, five minutes to remove excess water with one dry towel, second pass with towel two and QD including side glass. Inspect with microfiber buffing cloth to finish. About thirty minutes exc a few mins set up.

This is the quick routine, on a good day in summer I'm happy to spend hours :)

Same as me ...though Alan and I (bluevrs2) did spend more time on his car and mine yesterday

That's what I use.

Exactly the same for me too, it's handy too because I can run down to halfrauds if I run out too, that's how i ended up using it. :)

I used to use a flat so how no water supply in the underground car park. I started using optimum no rinse and haven't stopped using it, it's great when you can't be bothered dragging everything out the shed to just give the car a quick wash. It seems your more after something like that that a QD?

Cheers for all the info guys. Makes an interesting read for someone who's still learning about this stuff!

To be honest what I've read on QD suggests that it can be used to keep your car clean in between proper washes. I was dubious about this if I'm honest, but gave it a go non-the-less. If you look at the description on here: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-sprays/cat_18.html  you can see what I'm on about...

At least I realise now how I should definitely be used QD. Just had a look at the video of the Sonax stuff, and the beading is amazing! Definitely need to give that a try I think!

How good is this Optimum stuff? How dirty a car have people used it on? & what are the chances of being left with swirls?

Thanks again :-)

If you use it as a Waterless wash...you're asking for trouble despite the claims to the contrary by the manufacturers.
IME it should be used to top up your LSP after a wash

I've been using Meguiar's NXT Speed detailer for a while and found it very easy to work with and gave good results. Run out of that and bought some Simoniz detailer wax from Halfords, much harder to work with and results don't seem as good.

I think I'll try Autoglym's rapid detailer next, as it seems to get fairly good reviews.

Quick detailers are great for removing water marks, topping up existing protection and generally improving the after wash finish.
