ringing bell on startup

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm new here and I need your help.

I bought few days ago Skoda Octavia 2002. When I try to startup engine, I can hear a sound, just like ringing bell. But yesterday and this morning, I can't hear that sound. What is the problem? Can I fix it?

Appreciate your help.

Sounds like it might be the starter motor

Seatbelt warning...

My first thoughts are seatbelt warning (to confirm this, get in, fasten seatbelt and only then put key in ignition). If you don't get the chime it's the seatbelt warning and perfectly normal.

Or fluid or brake pad level, in which case there should be an associated warning light which remains illuminated with the engine running, and we need to know which light it is.

The warning buzzers are vicious in this car, whenever one goes off (low washer fluid etc) everyone in my car ****s themselves!

As above, probably seatbelt warning. If you turn the ignition on before putting your seatbelt on you get the noise.

The first time I heard the low fuel beep I nearly died of shock!  It still makes me jump even now.

Could the OP's noise be the sound of the engine that you hear for a second on start-up before the oil makes its way round?

As stated it's probably the seat belt warning chime. There is a plug under the drivers seat which if disconnected will stop the chime.

Doesn't that disable the air bag ???

Okay, this go too far, can't follow LOL

When I put a key, I turn it once, and I can hear sound, like dong, dong, dong, dong then I turn the key second time, and then I startup the engine. But I didn't heard that ****ing sound dong dong, this morning. Now, my question, what should be it? Why is there no more that sound?

And sorry for my bad english. Cheers!

Try it once with your seatbelt plugged in and once without.

If it does it without your seatbelt plugged in then its the warning that's telling you to wear your seatbelt.

its also possible that the seat belt micro switch in the clip is on th way out... had it in my old Cordoba,

doesnt pick up the seat belt is in fully so donged away until you pushed it waaayyy down.

PITA.

are there any dash lights staying on after you start the engine? with or without the dong...
