Octavia Mk2 Pre-FL MFSW & Steering Controller

Featured Replies

Having had this in my garage and found myself spending more time looking for a new car rather than how to fit this multi-function steering wheel (MFSW), it's probably time to sell it on to someone who actually wants to fit it.

It is brand new 4-spoke leather MFSW for radio & telephone as fitted to pre-FL Octavia cars and possibly other VAG cars around the same era.

It does not come with an air bag - a standard Skoda 4 spoke pre-FL steering wheel air bag will fit.

However it does come with the wiring loom needed to make the controls work (1K0 971 584 C)

It is likely that you will need a new higher spec steering wheel controller and I have a choice to suit either of the slip ring types (get your car scanned with VCDS and check the Ross Tech site to see which you need).

I have part numbers 1K0 953 549 BP (Type 2 slip ring: 1K0-959-653-C and 1K0-959-653-D) and 1K0 953 549 AM (Type 1 slip ring: 1K0-959-653 and 1K0-959-653-A). Both are classed as Highline controllers and support cruise control as well as MFSW.

If you can find a used CC stalk (I got one for about £25 used) you might as well fit that at the same time as you will have the airbag and steering column trim off already.

To be totally clear: The MFSW and loom are brand new and unused but the controllers are both used. You will need VCDS to code all of this to your vehicle.

£185 inc. postage to mainland UK by courier or less is collected in person (from Hereford / Worcester area) and paid in cash.

If your car has a 4 spoke leather pre-FL genuine Skoda steering wheel (no controls) in very good condition, I would consider part exchanging yours against this MFSW and controller.

I am just going through some frustrations with my pre-FL Octavia, attempting to get a 3T0 419 091 F to work. That wheel looks pretty much like this one http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/298461-skoda-multifunction-steering-wheel-mfsw/?hl=%2Bmfsw#entry3590894 but has also tiptronic shift paddels. It has been fitted since 2009 and I have changed the necessary parts but some buttons simply won't work even though the VCDS measuring blocks show values when I press them. Someone told me that my instrument cluster isn't compatible and also my radio. So I am considering selling all the nice stuff and going to a pre-FL MFSW like yours. My original steering wheel is a three-spoke leather wheel in good condition. The airbag itself may fit your wheel but the cover definitely won't.

I had intended to go for a FL-3 spoke as well, but could not find anyone who had got everything working correctly in a pre-FL so went with the pre-FL one.

If your original 3 spoke leather wheel was factory fitted to a pre-FL Octavia, then the airbag should fit.

Problem is, you are in Germany which is going to bump up costs significantly for both of us with sending things back and forth.

PM me if you can see a way of keeping costs down and possibly swapping wheels over.

Turns out that the 3 spoke & 4 spoke pre-FL steering wheels had different airbag shapes. So I couldn't do a swap. Sorry.

I'll amend the original post to reflect this.

Had a couple of people express interest, but not followed through.

Last chance at £160 for wheel, loom & steering controller including postage before going on eBay this week.

KB, you still willing to PX a standard wheel?

If it's a four spoke leather Skoda Octavia standard wheel, then yes.

Sure is, off my 05 Elegance, will grab a photo at lunch.

Golden question is, do you need the wheel swapped or can you ship me the MFSW and i can get it fitted then ship my current one?

There is a little wear on the bottom of the wheel and the usual wear you'd expect on a 9 year old wheel. pics attached.

Not too concerned about the wear, but the leather looks very shiny! Is it slippery?

The wheel is ready to ship out with the controller & loom. My car has a 'rubber' standard wheel fitted at present.

that would be my greasy mitts, I've not given it a clean in the last few months.

I've used the last of my leather cleaner and its gone back to leather texture :) need to get some more tomorrow to finish the job, so will update you once I've done that,

Sounds promising.

I'll PM you.
