Lane assist camera = light assist camera

Featured Replies

I've been having a browse round on ETKA and it looks as if there is only one part number for the front facing camera be it for lane assist, light assist, traffic sign recognition or whatever.

So my question is for VCDS gurus really... How feasible is it that the above features can be enabled via software? E.g. The vRS has Lane assist as standard but not light assist... Is there hope?

TIA!

The camera may be the same, but there may be an extra ECU needed for the optional features, or it may be done all in software. Would be good to find out.

I assume cornering fog lights will just be software.

Interesting one this, I'll be keeping my eye on this post. Probably getting my hopes up but would be great if this is just a few VCDS tweeks to enable the extra features of Front Assist.

Lane assist maybe, sign recognition too, but Front Assist needs the radar thing in the grille.

I thought light assist used a sensor on the rear view mirror but that was from reading up on golf \ Audi forms.

Hmm, ETKA definitely said the light assist camera.

Does anyone have it specced and can confirm?

There is a camera behind the rear view mirror which I assume is for the light assist. Which I love except in the fog when it doesn't dip quickly enough/at all, which I imagine is annoying if you were coming the other way tonight!!

Elegance has light assist but not lane assist and I definitely have a camera.

In which case I wonder if Lane Assist can be enabled...

They are not the same cameras! You have a small enclosure behind the rear view mirror for the Light Assist only and if you go for the Lane Assist as well, you get a larger square-ish enclosure that has both.

Light Assist only - which is what I have:

ETKA was lying to me then! :(

Maybe if you have Lane Assist, you could have a chance to get Light Assist working. But the other way around is highly unlikely just from a software activation point of view.

The same camera seems to be used for traffic sign recognition too...

It us, traffic sign recognition uses the lane assist camera.

Plenty on the golf 7 forums where cars with lane assist don't have traffic sign recognition.

It seems there are two different option codes for lane assist, one with and one without traffic sign recognition.

I don't have Lane Assist and I'm still getting the traffic signs (speed limits) on my Columbus. I'm guessing then that it's only nav data and not actual road signs being recognized?

Yes, your guess is correct. In case of enabled 'traffic signs recognition function' you should be getting all other sings on the maxi-dot as well (not just speed limits).

Yep, it is embedded in the map data. Mine doesn't do this and the dealer has escalated to Skoda as to why.

You don't have access to VCDS or live anywhere near me do you? Could do with getting a scan of your coding to see if I can work it out.

No VCDS access and I'm from Romania. :p

I could check the system's version though, if you'd like?

Never mind, trying to find out how it is enabled, either a coding or adaptation but the coding isn't documented and all the adaptations are in German!

Couldn't see where you were from on the tapatalk app on the phone, not exactly round the corner LOL
