Is there a way to get fault/flash code?

Featured Replies

The amber engine light just come when starting the car to come home from work so I wondered if there was a way to get a flash/ fault code from the dash???

Thanks

Kev

Not from the dash. You need VCDS or a code reader.

Sorry for sounding stupid but what is VCDS??

Cable and software that does the same as the dealer's tool.

You could also buy a cheap tool for like £15 and read the codes, but I can't say that'll be all that useful or reliable.

Check the VCDS thread on the forums and see if anyone near you has it and is willing to check the code for you :)

Reminds me, Ben. I have VCDS Lite if you don't or need it :)

VCDS = VAG Com Diagnostic System. VAG = Volkswagen Aktiengesselschaft.

You could also buy a bluetooth OBDII adapter online and get the smartphone App called Torque which also has a fault reader / clearer on it which is excellent.

VCDS can access all fault codes rather than just OBDII readers which can only do certain systems. VCDS also can generally provide more information.

VCDS lite doesn't do CAN so is somewhat restricted on newer cars.

It's something Googled for, that one may ask more inciteful follow up questions. :)

VCDS or ANOther fault code reader should be able to pull the codes out of the car regarding any errors. Rosstech's site shows explanations for the codes. Probably worth doing another search based on the codes of t'web to see peoples' experiences with it (them). Cars have become complicated beasts and sometimes multiple codes show up. Investigating and solving the problem(s) can be time and £££s consuming.
