Punctures

Featured Replies

Just thinking with the dark nights now arrived. I was one of the fools who went for the false floor and no spare possibility and am now getting concerned about getting a flat in the dark.

What is the situation with Skoda breakdown cover ? Do they come out and sort it for you ? and if so how, with the gunk bottle or do they loan you a spare wheel like some other vehicle models do? I do not like the idea of being stuck some where on a cold rainy/snowy night attempting to use some thing that will probably not work anyway, as I recently discovered in a friends BMW when he tried to use the gunk

Take the plunge and buy the Yeti spare wheel and kit,I did and at least you have peace of mind if you do get a puncture.

Unfortunately it will not fit because I have the variable boot floor fitted and I have been advised the spare wheel cannot be retro fitted without a lot of work

I can understand your concern and because I'm a Luddite and pessimist I opted to sacrifice a bit of space and go with the spare wheel option. For me the concerns were sitting around for an hour waiting for Rescue to turn up when I could change the wheel myself and be on my way in less than 10 minutes (always assuming I can get the wheel nuts undone of course, but that is for another thread) but also if the gunk does work am I going to be off the road whilst the puncture is being fixed? Around here it's not unusual to have to wait 24-48 hours for a simple puncture repair and on one occasion (previous car) between the tyre place deciding it was a repairable puncture and then that it wasn't and ordering the wrong replacement tyre my spare was on the car for more than a week. I dread to think what the situation would have been with the spare-light option. I suppose I could have bought a spare wheel and kept in the garage just in case.

It also happens that with the spare wheel option I've got a floor pretty much level with the tailgate lip, which suits the dogs getting in and out.

I've not really made you feel any better about this, have I?

I assume the variable boot floor is a permanent fixture and you can't just take the whole lot out and retrofit the spare wheel option, albeit rather more expensive now than if you'd specified it at ordering.

And just a passing thought, when I ordered my Regency Green Elegance friends made less than positive remarks about future resale values for "cars in strange colours" (no honestly, it looks good....really. You just need to catch it in the right light) and one can only speculate whether, as the downside of no spare wheel gets more widely recognised, that will affect S/H values - possibly even more so where there wasn't even a spare wheel option if you wanted it. Time will tell.

Jon .Surely the variable boot for is just a screw in fitment like lots of other things?

The spare wheel and raised boot floor + under floor fittings just lifts in,a 5 minute job.

(Where's TP when you need him.......Octy III forum no doubt.) :giggle:

My 1st 1.2 Yeti was a Demo which had no spare fitted ,when haggling with the salesman I stated that I wanted the spare wheel and raised floor out of another of their showroom models or I would not proceed with the purchase.

They agreed and the swap was done inside 30 mins.

I believe your dealer can order the  raised floor and spare as a after sale option.

True - when looking for our S/H Yeti any that didn't have a spare wheel where right at the bottom of our list and we would have been happy to buy one with a spare that cost a bit more than a similar spec without.

As it turned out, we were fortunate enough to get a pre registered Yeti that had the spare wheel option (which was a nice since it wasn't advertised as having one and even the dealer was surprised when we lifted up the floor in the boot to reveal the spare!)

Still about albeit yes I'm loitering in other parts of the forum ;):giggle:

Not seen the variable floor on a Yeti first hand, only in a photo but I believe it should be interchangeable with the regular floor, or false floor with spare if you so wished but would mean obviously removing and replacing various bits and pieces.

I have had one puncture in 100,000 miles, I bought a plug kit after this as I had to wait for Skoda Assist, have never had to use it since, worry not as the chances of a flat are very slim IMO.

I had a the variable floor from factory and as part of the deal I had the spare wheel kit too, with all the parts.

Swapped it over myself in 1/2 hour

And on the other hand I had four over a period of about 6 weeks, including a complete blow out (hole the size of a 10p piece, and there were Pirelli tyres so not super-budget). All the luck of the draw I guess.

Still glad I've got the reassurance of my spare wheel in the boot.

I have never had Pirelli tyres. Dunlop from new, then Bridgestones and now Continentals.

As you say Paul52 it is the luck of the draw.

Sadly both of ours don't have anywhere for a spare.

One has conti seals, which I'm debating for the Touran, but they wear quickly I find

Don't mention Pirelli tyres to the competitors on WRGB!!!

Lots of punctures occuring with them.
