Retro wheels opinions please

Recommended Posts

You could argue that it's been so long since they were seen on cars that no-one under thirty will recognise them.  Mind you, the same could be said for three spokes...and they looked **** as well!

3 spokes are making a massive comeback in the Jap scene. Hell, I even saw a modified Ka on 3 spokes that looked tidy!

OZ Mito split rims...timeless classic

Ford tried to update the venoms on the focus st didn't they :wonder:

My BBS CH's are based on the Venoms, no??

Please don't fit the TSW Venoms

I'll admit it, I used to like them back in the day, but they really won't suit the Octavia.

On the topic of old wheels, I always wanted a set of OZ Compomotives, never had the money for them though

Most of these have been smashed to pieces now as they were made from Magnesium

I was under the impression they were stronger being magnesium alloy?

Not as old I know, but I had set of Borbet A wheels on my last car, thought they were awesome!

Sent with Tapatalk

Still got Borbet As on my Golf:

Looks good mate.

I polished the lips on the rear wheels, never did get around to doing the fronts

Looks good. Prefer the flat centre caps over the ones I have. If I keep these that's the next investment!

This is real retro!

Seriously, I have searched high and low for something that will fit the Golf and nothing, anywhere fits without major work to the hubs :(

I've always fancied some on my Rallye, but they are like rocking horse stuff.  These aren't exactly the same, but you get the idea....

I love the look of white wheels on a car, especially a rally-style striped car like the Pug Rallye range.  I love the Rallye concept.  Peugeot should do a modern day Rallye and strip all the sat nav, side airbags, leccy windows etc out of a GTi.

There's not much to a Rallye.  No air bag, abs, power steering, air con, elec windows, crash protection etc.  As much as I love driving one on a daily basis, I'm not sure if people would go for one nowadays.  We've all gone soft. :notme:

It is great fun and every journey is an event, even going to the shops.  As Colin said, 'Simplify, then add lightness'.

Very true.  I'd love to see something like a Peugeot 107 with a big engine, better suspension, stripes and a proper bog-basic specification, but I'm probably in a minority.  The 107 XS was almost there except that it had the standard 1.0 engine rather than them squeezing a 1.6 under the bonnet.

I used to use my stripped, Caged and harnessed saxo as a daily. Was fun getting out of it.

Used to like the venoms, friend had a set of 16" on his Saxo back in the day. Can't say they do it for me now.

I used to have a set of 13" 3 spokes on my mk1 cavalier, looked crap but were super wide and it handled like a huge go cart :)

i have to say, there was a red 106 rallye out on track with us yesterday, was quite impressed with his cornering ability.

not up to rwd standard of course, but was seeing off most of the fwd cars in the bends.

Yeah, it's the corners where the Rallye wins.  It really does recalibrate what you think is possible when on a nice twisty road.

Talking of retro wheels, I had some genuine Speedlines on the car for a while.  It killed the cornering ability, made it feel lead-footed.

Once the OEM wheels were on, it transformed the car.

I did the same to the vRS.  I fancied the look of some 18" wheels and spent quite a lot of money on them.  The same feeling happened and the car felt like it wanted to go straight on in the corners - the vRS isn't great at them in the first place.  Once the Spiders were back on, the car was so much happier.
