Eibach Springs - how to improve the ride

Featured Replies

If I just get them to cut 3 cm out of the rear ones and 2 cm out of the front will that do the trick? Sorry just read your post, what should I trim the rear ones to?

2cm is about all you can remove from the front stops because they are mounted in a hard pastic 'cup'. The important thing with the rears is to retain the top 3-4cm becasue this 'nobbly' portion keeps the stop located in the body mount.

My final mod reduced the rear stop to this 'nobbly' bit at the top and the small nipple at the bottom which holds the damper dust cover tube in place. I cemented these two small pieces together with Araldite. So the whole rear stop is just 5cm long. Hope that helps.

Right, I finally got my car booked in on Thursday to get the bump stops done. After 4 hours and no phone call, I called in and they said it hadn't been done:eek: . Apparently, there is no way that the suspension could bottom out on the bump stops as they are so far up, and because they are small anyway. They questioned why anyone had told me to do this and i said that the suggestion had originally come from Eibach UK. They were adament that it wasn't necessary so I don't know what to do now.

Pretty sure the bumpstops on my Fabia weren't trimmed and I had no probs at all with the suspension :D

If you're not bothered by the ride quality, leave them as they are. You can easily check the distance between the top of the rear damper and the bottom of the stop by pulling down on the dust cover tube until the stop hits the damper. I bet it won't drop much more than an inch...

That's the problem, I'm not happy with the ride!! Whenever I drive on an undulating road the car skips around and doesn't have the suspension travel to keep it feeling planted, it's also quite jarring. Maybe I'm expecting a bit too much from it? If I could do the fronts myself I would coz the back ones seem easy enough.

With care you can do the fronts yourself. Jack the car up to expand the spring, push up the dust cover bellows and you can carefully trim the bump stop through the gaps in the springs. You can turn the stop round on the damper rod to trim it evenly.

Bought new skoda octavia some body role and bounce slight pull to the front left side could indicate weak shocks or four wheel alignmnt ? Could this be possible with new car ? I changed tyre pressure in front to 28psi slightly harder on fuel !

What is the verdict ?

I'm thinking of changing those bumpstops when I'm getting Eibach springs. But does anybody knows the measures of original bumpstop? Because the Powerflex bumpstops are universal with different measures. Thanks for any information! :)

very interested in this topic, was thinking of switching back to standard springs due to the crashy ride on my eibachs. have had them on the car for 15K and i'm sick if having to take little speed bumps at 10mph, and nearly knocking my teeth out on potholes.

I will give eibach a ring now and report back.

EDIT:

Have spoken to a eibach supplier, and also Jabba about this, as I need to improve the ride quality, both have suggested the eibach dampers which come with new bumpstops. Jabba especially were confident this would improve the ride a lot. Fitted Inc VAT the setup is only just shy of 500 notes so I think i'll be struggling on for a month or two before I can afford to test this theory. Thanks go out to Jabba for quality advice, regarding this and other work on the car.

Sorry to add to an old thread but on ETKA it states that Ibiza Cupra/FR use shorter rear bumpstops 67mm opposed to 123mm part number 6Q0 512 131D so could save some time 'cutting and shutting the rears':)

did anyone try the Ibiza ones mentioned ?

Hi people! Just to bring the topic back to life again as i need a little help with this still. I have a 2004 Ibiza TDI Sport (130), and i am currently in the process of deciding on parts to upgrade the suspension. The standard setup on the Ibiza is pretty harsh to be honest, and i have a funny feeling that the bump stops are a likely cause of this as well as on the Furby's.

What would the opinions be out there on a new spring/shock setup as opposed to coilvers to obtain a decent ride as well as a 20 or 30mm drop? I cant seem to find any kits for the ibiza, so im being forced into coilovers i think.

I will be getting Powerflex bump stops and bushes i think, and apparently i will need new top mounts as well. Are bump stops made of a solid material or is there a mechanism inside them or something?

Will i need to get new drop links for coilovers? and why?

After some long reading on this I can see that Eibach, and Weitec kits are recommended, any thoughts?
