What did you type this post on?

@forum, do 1.6 tdi's have dpfs?

mine does the same (octy 1.6 tdi cr), contacted Skoda and had a good chat to the service manager and he reassured me that it is a normal engine operation. It is the DPF cleaning its self, just ensure that you give it a good run on motorway once a week to get the engine hot so that it can burn off the soot particles.

thanks for the info firestarter i give it a blast up to telford sunday pete

I'm not sure modern diesels are suitable for anyone except sales reps and people with long motorway commutes, because of the DPF problem.  We went from diesel to petrol when we went from the Octavia I to the Octavia II and haven't regretted it.  The diesel was £2000 more expensive, which meant a very long payback period at 10,000 miles a year with more expensive fuel (the cheaper VED helps, but you're still looking at 5-6 years, longer if you do it on net present value and allow for inflation, and the price gap between diesel and petrol in the UK is probably only going to widen due to supply and demand).

anyone can run a diesel, as long as you give it a good run and push the it through the gears every so often, all should be well. Ive been running diesels for the past 10 years and never experienced any problems ie around the town and school runs. Remember!! if you just do short stop/start journeys all the time you may experience problems.

do you follow the gear change on the dash ive try to but sume times it tells me to change gear from 3 to 4 at 30 mph

which i have tryed but sume times its  labouring so why does it tell to do it ? other wise very please it

might look a the new estate later on next year or the new rapid hatch back

I ignore the gear change symbol, just listen to the engine it will tell you when its wants to change gear.

I suspect the gear change indicator makes sense for a fully warmed up engine on flat roads but not at othet times. It will also very much be a gear change point for fuel economy not performance.

I believe that isn´t normal, when the rpms drop from 1000 to 780 should be normal if the car is on idle.

Some do have a slightly roughness when acelerating from first to second when the regeneration is active.

I myself, have mentioned this before, changed the idle rpm to 850, big diference compared to 780.
