Having a few problems some solved but all help welcome

Featured Replies

So as some know I bought a skoda octavia vrs that had a oil light on due to a level sensor it had good history with a recent service etc but the engine light reared it's ugly head too.

Any way oil issue was a pain I done the strainer pick up pipe due to advice on here the oil pressure switch was pennies also the sensor I needed was a tad dearer anyway all changed oil light still on then someone suggested the bonnet switch so that got bridged and the oil light went out probs was that all along but at least I have piece of mind on the oil front!!

So the light got reset but came on mates reader wouldn't pick anything up so I called the AA never used my membership of years so he read the system and got these codes.

PO501 vehicle speed sensor

PO171 + system to lean bank 1

So I know what's wrong with it on paper but no idea what's involved in the repair or what the second fault even means.

Anyone any ideas what's involved thanks in advance

The PO171 code is probably down to a split breather hose in the PCV system. Most likely under the inlet manifold

I had this on mine a few months ago. It turned out to be the maf sensor on mine buddy. There are 2 lambda sensors on the exhaust 1 pre cat 1 after. That's the bank 1 before cat thats just telling you which sensor is picking up the fault. List of possible problems are:

Maf check

Fuel pressure regulation issue

Check fuel pump

Check injectors

Check intake system for leaks

Check exhaust for leaks

Check secondary air system for leaks

Check vacuum pipes for leaks

That's for fault P0171.

Cheers I'm gonna try cleaning the maf first then if that doesn't work go through the list cheapest first lol

Anyone any ideas on the second issue?

Go careful cleaning the maf sensor mind. They are very fickle things! I bought some electrical cleaner from maplins filled a freezer bag with it and put the maf in the bag and left it for a few hours. It didn't work though! Bit the bullet and bought a new one. Transformed the car. You don't notice how the performance is dipping until you replace a faulty part. Check all the pipes round the engine for leaks its cheapest options first before spending money. I've had loads of them split at various times and I could hear all of mine.
