Sorry I missed the NOT from the title.

Please note - I bought the car like this and in the days before I had learnt or was even aware of this site....

Let the laughter commence!

You may laugh... It seems quite popular on this site!

i've seen bits about using self tappers etc.

The screw you can see there goes all the way through to the other side!

Fantastic, Must have been done by a pro then, making 100% sure it ain't coming off.

Good job.

ohh they made a proper good job of it, looks like the have also used some kinda sealant in there as cant get the pipe off, even once the screw is removed....

Wow what a mod!

Tis the turbo I feel sorry for...

Poor thing getting bashed with sealant, super glue, bits if plastic and metal from the hole being drilled...

Is there just the one screw though? They might have taken off the EGR/ASV to "fix" an unreliable joint.

there are another few screws where the 90 meets the plastic pipe, haven't seen much else but i think there is a bodge on the lower pipe from the inter-cooler as well.

Needless to say I am wanting to replace the lot. my plans are to source some silicone pipes and alloy tubes from ASH and get hold of some couplers and just change everything.

dont suppose anyone has the link of how to replace the whole boost pipe set up do they? I've seen it on here before, it listed literally every size and bend of pipe&coupler that was needed from the turbo to the EGR, but I can't find it again!  :(

i think whoever used to own the car may have frequented this site. there is an epic attempt at a pd160 intake (a volvo one thats been hacked and screwed on).

and there used to be a sticker above the left headlight, which thinking back might have said briskoda- but it was 3+ years ago so i might be making it up

So i think they got ideas from here and 'improved' them

haha, yeh thanks, i was talking to Carl when he was getting all the bits together. Its the bottom one that there seems to be less info about, but i know for certain someone linked a quite an old post that listed everything.

But it is seeming like i may have dreamt it?

Looks a bit jerry but the idea is right enough

I've sealed a few this way (usually off the intercooler)

More fool the people who spend £100 on an oem new boost pipe

4 self tappers positioned at 90 degree intervals around the pipe and voila

My leon fr tdi made 198bhp on a pd150 turbo (extremely healthy) with the pipes connected this way

Tis the turbo I feel sorry for...

Poor thing getting bashed with sealant, super glue, bits if plastic and metal from the hole being drilled...

The turbo is before the boost pipes that egr connection goes to the inlet manifold, if it is taken off and done then there is no issue

I've said this before but surely if you shove a screw in the joint you leak air at full boost?

No not if you do it correctly

And a graph to prove it

Stock pd150 turbo pushing out 198.6bhp @ 3,700rpm

4C167F51-AFBA-4934-AABC-46383E590DB6-416

No boost leaks there, my pd130 mapped made 173bhp on the same rr so its accurate

Get a bottle, put a screw in the bottom, fill it with water, observe and see if it leaks.

Its not quite the same as that

A bottle isn't thick enough for a self tapper to work

When connecting a boost pipe your going through 2 skins! Each is about 5mm thick, there is no way on this planet its leaking

Go ahead and spend £100 for a new boost pipe, more fool you guys! I'll stick to my self tappers!

You must drill a pilot hole first surely?

Yes :)

Obviously with whatever your connecting off the car
