Where to start

Featured Replies

Having a few problems with my mk1 vrs but have only had it a few month so cold running is new to me.

Most annoying thing is on start ( especially going work 5:30am) the car runs ver lumpy for upto 2 mins. The car feels very hesitant both in first and second gear with revs oftem dropping right down. But no lights come on dash and after a few minute driving there seems to be no recurrance.

Secondly my temp guage all summer was straight up once up to running temp. For the last week it has stayed short of the position i have been used to seeing it whilst i have owned the car

Any help is welcome

First problem could be the SAI pump does the car sound like there's a hair dryer on full belt under the bonnet?

Second problem could be a thermostat stuck open.

Sure someone with a bit more knowledge will be along soon.

I would be more tempted to say your temp sensor is shot. This can cause poor start up and initial running until car warms up or depending on how bad irractic low down running after warming up to. At 20 quid and 5 minutes to fit get a new one to be sure.
