Castrol edge 5W-30 is

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am just about to have the service done on my GL2. One local dealer wanted £349 for the 4 year/40,000m service (she is actually 2 years old) and was not too impressed when I said that was what I paid for the wifes Range Rover service!

Moving on to the other dealer, in the more affluent area, they want £225 which is the major service including fuel filter. however they charge £9 a litre so the Costco Oil is a good deal. Until the 24th it is on 20% off so perhaps worth a visit? 4Lts (enough for the Fabia) is £23.

Hope it helps someone.

Kind regards,

Ed

What was the Service to include at that Price, £349

was it a 'Major Service;, and also going to get a Brake Fluid Change,

maybe Getting an Air filter & Pollen Filter @ 40,000 miles, anything else?

(if all getting done £349 is about right for some places)

Or just a stupid Quote from a Service Desk that reflects nothing that is going to be getting done.

Ed, what model GL is yours? A 3 pot 1.2 cr or the 4 pot 1.6 cr? Either way, the 4 year service should include a cambelt change amongst many other things. It's 4 years or 50,000 miles for a cambelt change, which ever is first. If it's 2 years old with 40k on the clock, then that's ok but you need to make sure it's done at 50k or just before to retain warranty. It's usually cheaper to get it done all together with a 4 year service.

I got some Castrol from Costco.

Would you believe I saw the same oil in B&Q for £15.95 per litre!!!

£15.95...that's a cracking price!

The car (1.2 three pot) is a smidgen over 2 years old but at 36,500miles and has been slightly over maintained, hence the fourth service which corresponds to the 4 year/40,000mile check.

His 349 quote allegedly came from a table but was simple oil service plus fuel and pollen filter.

Suffice to say I shall not be darkening their doors again!

£15.95 per Litres, not for 4 litres. Not really Cracking, more like Crackers.

At a Skoda Service Desk, once they have Used the Screen or a Table and come up with a crazy price,

then ask them about your specific Service & Maintenance needs.

Low Mileage Car, or Higher than normal Mileage car, annual Servicing or Oil/Filter/Fluids etc.

You can get good value and the proper work done,

but not if the Service Desk person is clueless, just covering for the day, lunch etc.

& If you leave them to tell what is needing then the world is their Oyster.

If they do not know anything other than what  the Screen says,

maybe just ask them to get someone that does know about servicing and maintenance.

Service done although they could not get the fuel filter out as connector is knackered so warranty job next week. Likewise the rear boot badge which had corroded(plastic delam). Seem to have sorted the squeaky tailgate too.

As she presented the bill (£240) she mentioned screen wash....hang on a moment, I brimmed that yesterday. Well I can give you the rest of the bottle...I'd rather just not pay for it, says I. Whilst on the subject, the lady I booked with, said it would be £225... Oil is £40 so by providing my own, I make that £185. Lots of tapping later, bill now £186...magic.

Get to the car and said bottle of screen wash(full) is in the door pocket.

I promised to bare cake on my next visit for the warranty work.

Tyres are low tread so now to research those...thinking I will go michelin energy saver as I have had good results in the past, just quite pricy...wonder if I can wait until costco s next tyre deal...I note its just a flat £50 off now rather than four for three!

£186 though...puts skoda worthing in to question at £349!!!!!
