Future Yeti Competitor from Ford

Featured Replies

Well the current Ford Edge was never sold in Europe (or outside the USA in fact).  Come the next one that will change. I think it looks very handsome. As long as they can keep that interior toned down. The current Kuga is nice enough on the outside for me but the interior puts me of completely.

Mind this is a concept only but as these go this one is about 90% the production look inside and out.

Lots more photos here:  http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-edge-concept-la-2013/full/#photo-1577644/

Possibly,but aren't they H U G E in size?

And,why did they have to beat it so hard with the Ugly stick. :wonder:

In most of the current SUV-type things seem to have this huge front end (except the dear old Yeti).  Is this really so, or is it that the passenger compartment/window band has been lowered, Evoque-style??

To me (JMO!), it looks gross :peek:

It's not that huge as it's quite small (for the USA).  Current Edge dims are (from Wikipedia):

Wheelbase 2,824 mm

Length 4,679 mm

Width 1,930 mm

Height 1,702 mm

So not far off the Yeti or Tiguan.

Edge's are nice things tbh. Nicely appointed and amazing value for money in the US - although my last roadtrip done earlier this year was done in a Hyundai Sante Fe which to me looks remarkably similar to the front of that concept!

Yup I think the front is 90% a Santa Fe... and as you all know I LOVE the nose on the Santa Fe...  hence liking this as much too.   :giggle:

I like the way the concept has the lights joining/against the grill making it look like an angular larger shape at the front compared to the Sante Fe but the big grill thing carried over from the american trucks....  not 100% convinced. Oh and Im thinking Audi Q3 when looking at the side on view with its strong unbroken swage line.

I like that frown over the headlights too - as shaped by the bonnet.  The rear window line not tapering up like that on the Santa Fe also means the rear is not as heavy looking as that of the Santa Fe.

But if you want REAL performance have a look at the new Porsche Macan!

The S model will be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 340 horsepower and will push the vehicle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds, then on to a top speed of 156 miles per hour. The Macan Turbo has even more impressive figures on all fronts: an all-new, 400-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 engine; 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds; top speed of 164 mph.

Very low though...  Gosh it looks like an old Mazda3 from the side and especially from the back!

I thought Kuga was direct Yeti competitor. Edge is too big.

Kuga is also bigger than the Yeti and is from the Tiguan class.  And yes I realise the Edge a fair bit bigger but it is NOT like some huge American monstrosity that won't fit in our parking spaces.

Needs more chrome on the front ....

... that makes 340 horsepower and will push the vehicle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 secs....

Oh, come on, what sane person wants that in a crossover?! :bandit:   :giggle:  Im liking the Macan a lot.

I think the diesel Macan would suffice for me - six and a bit to sixty sounds adequate.

There seem to be quite a few mid/small crossovers on the way from the more premium makers - the Macan, the GLA, the Jag one, the Lexus... looks like there'll be plenty of choice.

Now if only Skoda would put a bit more power in the Yeti...

There already is a working prototype, it's called the Yeti_Man Edition... :-D I would be the first to hand over the cash to get it!

vag are always going to restrict the best engines from being dropped into Skodas IMO. The 2.5 litre RS five pot would be great in the yeti if only for the sound and overall ability but I don't think many would actually buy it as a factory vehicle. People who want that generally want the badge and heritage to match IMO. Hopefully Skoda will be allowed to use the 220ps golf/Octavia VRS unit in the mk2 Yeti but I think that's as good as it will ever get and probably doubtful even of that!

I took one look at the photo and thought "Oh, a competitor for the Kia Soul - at least in the ugly stakes" and for me it could never be a Yeti competitor because of the sloping rear end. Johann's little drawing at the bottom of his posts shows just why the Yeti is such a practical car, in my view.

Not sure on the relative selling merits of the KUGA in terms of volume but I do see plenty of them about.

This Edge looks more in the Evoque class and may run head to head with the Jaguar CX17 too.

Nice though, despite the Ford-LR link being dead, I do see some mild LR/RR cues in it, and yes the Santa Fe too.

I agree. Leave the roof line where it is but bring the bonnet line and side windows down to the door handle crease line and I MIGHT like it.

bigger? I drove both and differences are marginal.

Range rover Evoque.....Jaguar CX17.......Ford Edge.....

That's a difficult choice.

Yep,I'LL order the Ford. :giggle:

A pig with a chrome smile is still a pig. I think that this is hideous. Buy more Yetis people, it makes sense!

I too think it is hideous! I love my happy, smiling faced Yeti

Y'know, Johann - I wonder sometimes if you've taken yer Artichoke's 4h pencil and asktidentally poked yersel in one of yer eyeballs!!

Or else you've developed a severe case of bright light induced strabismus! Ie a squint, for readers not especially 'in tune' with things!

I have had the greatest of respect for (most) opinions, stories, photos, facts, fictions, and scoops presented here over the years from the finger of the 9 million man, but this time - this time - boy! are you off on one!!

We've joshed on here, agreed on here, argued on here, laughed on here, communicated frequently by PM too, but this is a first - Johanninemillman, you've made this old man weep.
