BW44 Silver VRS ESTATE TDI has arrived

Featured Replies

Collected my VRS estate, yesterday now, driven a couple of hundred miles today. Here's a brief rundown so far:

Collection from dealer was interesting. Spare key had bird s#$t on it!!?? WTF, seriously. I had an appointment and nobody had noticed until handover time? Anyway, that aside (dealer dealt with it), handover was pretty smooth.

Car was in good condition, a bit of protective tape left over the inside light lens. Was pouring with rain so didn't spend a huge amount of time looking at it from outside. I'd had the Diamonbrite paint protection treatment and water was beading nicely all over. Inside upholstery has also been treated.

Was impressed under the boot floor was more storage. I hadn't gone for the variable floor either. Spare can of oil in boot in a Castrol bag.

I went for standard interior (no leather, silver stitching). Seats are impressive and comfortable with height and lumbar adjustment although lumbar adjustment is a tad interesting when sat in the seat. I found you have to turn slightly to reach the handle and that means your back isn't flat against the seat back. It's therefore difficult to find your preferred setting.

Amundsen Sat Nav was easy to pair to my phone, Nokia Lumia 800, although I haven't got music playback from phone to work yet (probably a phone limitation). I DIDN'T go for Bluetooth +, but I've found signal quality and strength is excellent. Car also came with the phone holder that sits in the cup holder.

Rear parking sensor brings up display on the Amundsen, which I wasn't sure it would as the rear sensor is billed as acoustic in the brochure.

External lights are all fantastic and smart, although the rear LED tail lights only extend to the red rear lights and not the indicator or reversing bulbs. A little misleading in the brochure I felt but not a big deal. Front headlight washer, near side, didn't retract fully the first time I used it. It stuck out a few mm, so I pushed it flat again and haven't had the problem since. Rang the garage about it and they said they'd look at it tomorrow.

Driving is a real pleasure. Composed ride, not too stiff. Road noise is well managed, controls easy to use even if navigating the menus is a bit convoluted at times. I put that down to me getting used to the system and this being my first Škoda.

Cruise control works well and I soon discovered that, depending on driving mode selected, the acceleration when changing speed up and down varied. Eco accelerates more gently than Sport.

That's about it for now, I'll try and add more as I discover more about it but it is the best car I have EVER driven.

P.S. Driving mode button is just MODE not VRS as is shown in brochure! I know another thread on here was following this issue closely...

If anyone has any questions then please feel free to ask or PM me

Nice little write up. Enjoy. I still have a looonnnnggggggg wait to go :(

Do the parking sensors come as standard or did you specify as an option?

Looks good in silver - shame about the birdpoo!  :hi:

Pick up mine in an hour or so.......Should look identical to that except for silver roof-rails on mine.  Can't wait!

Rear parking sensors come as standard. I think that you have to add park assist in order to get front and side sensors too. I wasn't too sure whether to expect the display on the Infotainment display but it does which is very nice.

They are standard on the VRS and they are actually PDC (Parking Distance Control) rather than just sensors.

This means that when you go into reverse it brings a display up on the radio screen with a radar type display that shows you

how far away from the obstacle you are.

Nice little bonus this as i had this on my previous car and its much better than just an acoustic beep guiding you in.

Many thanks. Was a late night write up and I tried to focus on the things that I'd been wondering about whilst waiting for it to arrive. It's worth the wait, hope it's not too long. Mine arrived a month earlier than quoted.

I was just in Bristo's the other day talking to the guy about getting a VRS OCTY to replace my fabia early next year! Shes beautiful!

I dealt with Jonathan there, pleasant guy, didn't try to hard sell and let me out in the VRS demo car on my own! It's a fantastic car to drive, really pleased with it.
