1.9 TDI Air Intake

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Last winter my boss drove his BMW through a shallow puddle, and completly flooded/ruined the engine, as the intake was behind the foglight!

Just wondering where the external entry is for the air intake on our Skoda's?

The pipe of the air box seems to disappear into the wing....and not sure from there.

Any help appreciated.

Pretty sure it goes no where mate, that pipe is like 6 inches long. Might run to behind the headlight?

At least...thats how mine is.

Pretty sure my old car was the same.

Oh right I see thanks, just goes into the wing then?

That should be fine for taking on some puddles.

It can flood a bit round my way so want to make sure I can take the car through a reasonable depth of water.

I drove through a really stupidly deep puddle 6 months after getting the car and had no problems.

Won't be doing it again, but it was nice to know thecar can do it.

Made the car judder afterwards for a litlte bit at low revs. :S

I've been forced through a few puddles that "jumped" high enough to soak the windscreen. Engine never missed a beat (well except when I'd the Dunlops, and that time the traction control also went off so...)

It literally just goes into the wing and no further

Great, thanks guys.

Good to know I can do it if I need too.

Hi.

I just joined the forum to ask about what should be on the end of this pipe, and then came across this discussion!

The thing that puzzles me is that the open end of the pipe has a rubber face as if it is meant to be pressed against another part. Odd.

Cheers,

Roo.
