Oil filter

Featured Replies

Sorry, bit of a boring question -

Going to do an oil change on my vRS for the first time (first time doing it myself anyway) as I'm currently doing a mechanics/motor maintenance course on Thursday evenings so have access to ramps and tools and everything. Thought it would be good practise, plus it wouldn't hurt with winter coming up to have some nice fresh Mobil 1 oil.

I've seen the 'Hengst' oil filter on ECP for £8.16, or this one,

http://www.bsr-tuning.co.uk/products/66w71290/

Which one should I get? Is the second one a genuine VAG one that's worth paying more for?

And on awesome GTI they have a Schwaben Oil Filter removal tool which looks good, but just to confirm, this doesn't look like it will fit/work with the standard filter on the car at the moment?

Although thankfully the oil filter is nice and easy to get to, but I thought it might be quite a handy tool anyway if it would work.

Thanks for your time, sorry if it's a silly question.

Cheers.

The Oil Filter that Skoda Garages fit is

£7.78, & the Sump Plug £1.70 plus VAT  = £11.38 ,

03C115561D & N90813202

I use these & buy them at the Skoda Garage Parts Desk & get and keep the receipt, for the service folder.

plus change the Oil Filter more often than recommended, rather than use a £17 Filter. 'You decide.'

Important, Get a new sump plug,  unless you are sucking out the oil, obviously.

I would just get the Skoda stuff,as described by George.

If you are a novice in such things, yours is a good car to work on,not only is the filter very accessible but so is the sump plug because there is no undertray to remove to get at it.

Ok thanks. I'm guessing I'd just need to pop over to my local dealership to pick those parts up?

I've done a couple of oil and filter changes on cars in the workshop I go to, but only putting the old oil and filter back in! So will be first time of using my own car.

It's 3.6l of oil it takes isn't it?

It is.
