Rear Light on with DRL's....

Featured Replies

......Just back from the dealers and now my rear lights come on with the DRL's. If I turn off my DRL's the rear lights don't come on.

Thanks you sir, that will be, " On the House "

Thanks

That is how mine is from new

In Ireland I believe it's a legal requirement but not in England

Should be in England - makes logical sense, doesn't it?

Passed an Audi A3 the other night driving with DRLs only - on the motorway. Despite many drivers highlighting the fact to the driver they carried on regardless. At least having rear lights on would have assisted.

Should be in England, what surprises me is that all the safely related setting i.e.:- Flashing brake lights in an Emergency stop, hazards on when stopped after an Emergency brake are not activated. Rear lights with DRL's, Large Didital Speedo on the Maxi Diot, saves looking at the dials and you can see it.Thing is the dealers don't know what you can or cannot set.

Any one know what setting to change with VCDS to achieve what the OP has got ?

VCDS can't do it, it's a dealer jobbie

Oh bugger. Next time I am at the dealers then.

If they tell you it can't be done tell them it's a legal requirement in Ireland and it can be done. The setting is in the Central Electronic's and I believe it's a tick box

Thanks for that. I will get them to do it when it goes in next month.

Are you certain about that?

I am sure I saw a setting in vcds for that.

Mmmmm, you may be right as your car is already Irish ( is Irish the correct term )

Then again you may see the on the setting on VCDS but cannot activate it.

Ask/PM  mikeholroyd, the VCDS wizard

I'll have a look with VCDS tomorrow to see if I can do it or not (09 Central Electronics here I come).

You'd think they'd be wondering why they couldn't see their speedo.

I know what the difference in coding is for a Yeti on a 60 plate. I compared coding on a scan I did before and after the dealer activated the rear DRLs, and it was one digit difference on byte 15 in the central electronics. I tried this same code on a 12 plate Octavia, and it didn't work.

So I'm still waiting on comparing scans for an Octavia before and after-- what a shame I don't have Auric's original scan to compare one I'll get on Sunday.

Mike

EDIT -- @Vectra1

Any chance you can PM me a complete scan of your VRS? Or at least the scan of 09 Central Electronics??? And before Sunday please if you can mate!

Thanks

No problem.

Sounds as though the Irish DRL setting is the same as the Scandinavian one, which activates the front DRLs together with the tail lights. The UK DRL setting only activates the front DRLs. Somewhere within the code you should be able to specify the country/region which will alter the settings accordingly.

Correct Rab, but newer cars do not have the Scandinavian setting option.

No but have other regions on the famous byte-18

That is how mine is from new

Mine don't and ether do others Iv seen. Maybe it's only on on 13s

Had it on my 12 as well

** EDIT **

Though the 12 would have been an my13 I would think.

I have tails on with DRL's to and I checked coding b4 and after - nothing had changed so it must be either in byte 18 or as Ross suggested the dealer tool VAS modified the EPROM directly.
