I can't take the noise!

Featured Replies

I'm sat in the back of an airport taxi that work arranges (just got in from a business trip to the US) and the noise from the Tyree is horrific!

They are some cheap Wanli ditch finder specials in 225/45/17 fitment to a jaguar x type. It is like being rolled down a hill in a plastic bin.

Why do people for Tyree like this and ruin the ride and noise levels!

Only another hour to go on the journey.....arrrrrrrgggghhhh

Because they will last forever and its a taxi.

Because they will last forever and its a taxi.

Its not really a taxi service though, it is airport drop off and collection for businesses.

doesn't really set the right vibe and doesn't make for a relaxing ride.

Surely being the driver of said car and doing up to 3 runs a day between the south coast and LHR/LGW you'd want a quiet car!

Most of the vehicles are big Volvos, Audi's, BMWs or MB

You think a taxi would fit decent tyres?

Some are barely Road legal

Can you be sure the tyres are at fault?

Misaligned suspension, duff wheel bearing?

The tyres might be under or over inflated? Are they directional and have been incorrectly fitted?

Taxi's are often heavily laden, even premium tyres can wear unevenly when run like this regularly.

Just because there is an unrecognisable brand on the side wall doesn't automatically make it a bad (noisey) or less safe tyre.

The rear wheels are right by the rear passengar door and for some reason I always look when I get in. The size is easy to work out as it's on the side! Its a weird habit I have!

The rear bearings had been done recently as I did ask.

All the other cars seem to run premium brands and are whisper quiet (apart from the Volvo that was trying to eat its own auto gearbox when changing down!)

Well you know, you could always walk if you wanted a quieter and smoother ride.

Hmmm helpful comment there. As a driver in the car all day surely comfort is a big priority. All I can say is that his wasn't.

As a driver of tractors I couldn't for the most part give a damn about comfort to be honest and it's the fact that it's easier than doing it by hand/walking that matters and any mechanical help is a big plus.
