Hi, that's the type.

I've had my 09 plate 1.8 for nearly 4 years and always do as the book says especially with engine oil. It does sometimes use a bit more than I would have thought, but that's normal for the VAG 1.8tsi engines -apparently. I was told you could top up with an inferior synthetic oil - if it was just a small top up.

I've only bought a few litres, just as top up, and couldn't find it cheaper than the normal Halfords price. Since the cost of running the car (not petrol which I find a hard to hit 35mpg) over the last few years has been incredibly low (about £1500 over the 3 years with the fixed price service deal & cheapo insurance at £240pa) I can't complain about the cost of a few litres of oil.

Hope you enjoy the 1.8 - mine has been great and my only problem has been this month when two 150 year old trees fell on the rear door in the big storm - leaving a small dent, they're unbreakable, but then I broke the fuel filler door, which is a real pain!
