Insurance problem

Featured Replies

Got my renewal for my 2005 fabia vrs 130pd.

esure have tried putting my price up by a stupid amount.

i went onto confused and got a quote from the same company for £150 less so i rang them up to question this.

i was told my policy has increased because of 1 reason.

on the 4th of march this year i sold my 2007 golf gt-tsi

5 days later the car was involved in a crash and written off, i wasnt getting my vrs till the 12th so hadn't cancelled the insurance as i was just gonna swap it straight over on the 12th

this resulted in the victims insurance contacting mine to make their claim thinking i was still the owner of the golf

After exchanging 5-6 phonecalls with the new owner and his insurance company the matter was rectified and nothing else was mentioned.

Now esure are saying even though i wasn't involved in the accident and no claim was made against me... i still have a mark on my policy that i must declare and this is why my insurance has gone up

Is there anyone on here who's clued up on these matters ?

my renewal date isn't till the 1st december and although i know i should of cancelled my policy straight away surely i cant be charged an extra amount for something i haven't done and a claim that's hasn't been made against me

It's sortable, just get the DVLA to confirm car was sold on the date specified, contact the Customer Services with this

Lesson as to why you should not leave a policy running on a car you don't own.

i understand that but when no claim has gone through my insurance and the matter has been sorted out by the relevant insurance companys then i dont understand why i should pay extra and have to declare it when getting a quote

basically im being charged because the victims insurance company contacted mine 1st

Notification of an accident to an insurance agent is enough for them to start registering 'marks' against policies and impinging on NCB even if no claim is made.

will this "mark" be removed if i do what the 1st reply suggested with the dvla ?

It'll probably take a while to sort out and meanwhile you'll just have to pay up to stay insured.

I'd get started on their complaints or legal department while you're waiting on the DVLA to respond.

I've run into insurers mistakes several time over the years and I've always ended up out of pocket at least in the short term.

it's now sorted mate i rang the complaints department at 9am they rang me back at 11am to say it has now been removed from policy with them.

She did also make it very clear i must put my policy on hold if i sell my car in future and dont have another vehicle to swap it onto straight away

hopefully one of the insurance people on here will respond. My logic on the declarations and questions you are asked when generating a quote that you have not been involved in an accident (true) and you have no claims made etc (true). Would be nice to get it cleared up 110% before new policy though.

I can only wish you luck though your case is stronger than the one we had (driver reversed into car door) Glad you got it sorted
