Aircon not working

Featured Replies

Hi, hope you can help. I've started using my 1.9 estate after a summer on two wheels, and the air con doesn't seem to working. I've had it re gassed but still no better. I've read up on this site about the operation and the elec faults. On checking when I got home this evening all the fuses by the battery were ok, the climatronic unit in side the car works when the buttons are pressed and when switching between econ and air con there is a difference in engine note, the o/s fan is working, the n/s fan does not turn freely, there is some resistance as if the bearings are seized or the magnetic effect of the motor is holding it back. So do I need to replace the n/s fan or is the "resistance" normal?

The vehicle is a 53plate 1.9td with 270kmiles on the clock. I've had it for 3 years and this is the first air con fault I've had.

Any advise or guidance will be appreciated, thanks.

I don't know much about the aircon system, but it could be the clutch on the compressor, they seem to be an issue. Is the nut on the clutch compressor wheel still?

Both fans (certainly on my model) spin which the AC is on.

Aircon is disabled below 5C to protect the condensor from icing. That may not be the issue, but you could be chasing a non-problem.
