Modified '06 Sport - What's it worth ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've posted previously about modding my '06 TDI Sport, and having only finished the work on it about 2 months ago, I've been offered a Golf GTD for unresistable money. So, I need to sell the Octy, but I have no idea at all what it's worth. Autotrader is obviously going to give a ballpark figure, but is mine worth less because it's been modified, or more because it's all been done properly ? Bodywork / Alloys are completely standard by the way, including all the badges etc.

Spec is below, and I'd welcome any input.

Darkside GTB1756V turbo kit (dyno'd at approx 215BHP and 350 lb/ft)

Custom downpipe & de-cat

Darkside EGR Delete

Custom Darkside remap

Bilstein B12 Uprated shocks and springs all round

Uprated 312mm grooved & dimpled front EBC Brake Disks

Golf Mk5 GTi Calliper Carriers

New EBC disks on rears

EBC RedStuff Pads all round

Uprated Sachs performance clutch and DMF

New Top Mount bearings

All the engine and clutch work was done by Darkside themselves, the suspension and brakes were done by a local garage - i.e. everything has been done by a professional mechanic.

It's done 92k, but it still feels pretty tight, and it shifts, stops and corners like the proverbial now.  There's a couple of very minor marks on the bodywork, but nothing you wouldn't expect on a 7 year old car.  Oh, the air bag light is on because there's a fault on the drivers seat apparently.

I reckon I've spent the best part of £3.5k on the car in the last 6 months, with the intention of keeping it for another 3 or 4 years, but a 3 year old GTD with under 12k on the clock for £11k is too good to refuse.

So, anyone with a better idea of these things than me have any suggestions ?

Thanks

Jake

That price is way to low for the new car, has it been crashed or something?

Nope, it's from a close family member - they've owned it from new and they just want shut of it (becuse, get this - the factory SatNav doesn't support full post codes and they can't be bothered doing anything about it). I've tried to convince them to take more for it, but they're not having it.

It's a mad world sometimes, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth...

they are mad i would have thought it was worth £15k at least, the new ones have stupidly low lease rates because the residuals are so good.

buy the golf then sell for a decent profit..? :bandit:

I would have thought the upgrades on ur Octy would be a far better drive than the standard GTD, obviously the look of the Golf over the Sport is very tempting but smile factor I'd choose urs.

On the other hand the GTD is newer and has less miles and you could always transfer the B12 kit from the Octy then get it remapped, smiles all round!

Unfortunately what you've spent on the Octy personalising her has only added value to you, unless the person interested understands what you've done to improve her then you can expect only what it's valued at on Glass' or autotrader. Most buyers would question all the upgrades and steer clear thinking your a boy racer but unbeknownst to them you've created a piece of art that drives like something well ahead of it's time!

I'll have to keep an eye out for a Golf now will I? ;)

I would honestly suggest you join Freedom and get a proper and photos up. I'm sure someone will be tempted by that, as it's been done properly and with bits that make the car better than standard :)

Best of luck. I would probably do the same as you in that position, with the Golf!

That is utterly daft. The RNS510 (basically Skoda Columbus) just needs a firmware update; would cost next to nothing to sort out with the right sort of help. If they are insistent on practically giving you the car however fair shout!
