How much is it worth?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Much as I hate it, I think I might have to look at selling my vRS and going for something more economical. Just got a new job with a long commute, and I'm getting fed up of putting petrol in it. :-(

It's a MK1 vRS hatch in yellow (The best colour) on an 02 plate with 72k on the clock. Has full service history etc. The interior is practially mint, and the exterior is pretty good for the age.

Any ideas what it might be worth? I'm considering selling it privately, but would need it to go pretty quickly as funds are tight as usual. I've had some stupid offers in part exchange, one garage even offered me £900, the cheeky b*stards!!

Pics might help

Sell it in bits - they are usually worth more this way!

not any more they not.

tbh mate they are not worth much at all.  get the freedom payed for and advertise it here, prob best bet to sell for a decent price, all you need to do is look on trader and ebay, its flooded with them.

even the mods are not worth much these days. Stripping takes ages too.

experience in that field

£2500  wouldn't be unreasonable if it's got long mot and tax on it

Thats about right as long its in near mint condition

Thanks guys. Looks to be worth around what I thought. It has a couple of mods, namely an Whiteline ARB and Compbrake DV. I was thinking of taking them off and selling them separately, but I doubt it will be worth the hassle of taking them off for what I'll get for them.

Breaking it isn't really an option, it may get a better return in the end, but is gonna take a long time, and I think it's too nice a car, would be a shame to 'waste' it, especially when there's so many rough abused ones out there.

I'll get a couple of pics up and sort a freedom membership.

Silver 05 at a garage near me was up at £2095 the other day.

There not worth anything anymore tbh. £1500-£2000 more to the right person. Mk2's aren't much dearer these days.

Breaking is an absolute Ball ache, not worth the hassle for an extra few quid.

Sounds a nice motor and I much prefer them in yellow, no way of keeping it? LPG?

Yup. I was thinking myself that £2.5K is somewhat unreasonable on an '02, regardless of the low mileage.

Don't sell!  Other than a bit of extra fuel they are reasonably cheap to run I reckon.  I regret selling mine so I may be a bit biased on this one but it always costs to change cars.  If you got a diesel then you'd save at the pumps & in tax I suppose, but you've got to buy the thing in the first place.  Yours isn't worth much anyway so you'd be putting towards a new car as I did.

Do the maths and see if it makes sense over a longer period of time rather than just a month or so.  If it still saves you money then go for it but you'll have to factor in the unknown of the replacement car and any money it'll need spending on it.  At least you know your car.
