Revo Re Mapping On My Octy Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have just had my Free 5 hour trial from Revo on my VRS. It was impressive, more power, just as smooth, they say the Demo version is not as good as the real thing, but they I guess would say that, to sell it.

Anyway I was told to go to this Revo agent, by my local Skoda dealer. What I like is that its suppose to be invisible in Stock mode, my Skoda dealer also said not to declare it, and theres no soldering, changing parts, they dont even go under the bonnet.

Im thinking now of going for the SP1, that gives me 2 modes, Stock & Performance, the latter mode will be set to my personal preference, & they said they can mod it if im not 100% happy.

Going to cost around

maybe you need to search old threads on this board... ?;)

there are many opinions of the subject. dont expect to be able to take your car anywhere else for a remap without having the ecu repaired first now you have run the trial.

Personally think you would be very foolish not to tell your insurance company. Think of the unlikely (but possible) scenario where you have an accident and someone is killed / badly injured - if you were held to blame in any way you could be in for some serious financial outlay for recompense / damages etc. You can bet your bottom dollar that in the event of such an accident police / insurers / adjusters would be crawling all over your car and WOULD find the remap - insurance then void and you up the creek :(

Sorry for being so prudish but for the sake of a few hundred quid max pa is it worth potentially bankrupting yourself?

... or a jail sentence for driving without insurance? - for such it would effectively be - any false disclosure, or deliberate omission, invalidates your policy.

Would echo Paul's and Stu's comments; check out the thread as there is ongoing is a legal issue between APR and REVO....IIRC.

Also be aware is the reversion to "stock" after the trial...again see thread or PM Martin (gunnie) or indeed Paul for comments.

Either way declare your mods to insurance company...mine only cost any extra

Make sure you DO TELL your insurance company -- believe me it CAN be checked to see if its modified -- I'm not prepared to say how it can be seen - but trust me -- IT CAN.

And in case you think I'm joking -- I work for Audi -- I have seen first hand how it can be checked - and on my own car -- even if the chip is not physically changed -- the change to the software IS regisistered and CAN be checked -- maybe not by your dealer at local level -- but if Skoda technical got involved they as well as Audi & VW & SEAT do have the means to check -- BE WARNED.

Swap insurance if you have to - Liverpool Victoria don't mind as long as declare any mods.

hi skodaw,

interested to know whether you have seen revo software detected or are you referring to chip change remaps?cheers

I would guess its pretty easy to plug the car into some hi-tech factory diagnostics kit and check the ECU software details. I would assume its all date/time stamped, will have version no's etc.

A quick check against the factory records for any particular car will show a mismatch PDQ imho ;)

No havn't seen personally on REVO -- have seen on 4 chipped cars(all done by different tuners) -- the method used to check is software & hardware based - I cannot see how the REVO would not be detectable, although as I say have not seen REVO - yet

I see a lot of you seem to be going to Jabba why ???.

I think a lot of us are going/been to Jabba - is that they have a very good reputation - always acheiving good results.are very friendly and don't try and stich you into things that will be no good -- they don't make any wild claims - don't slag other tuners off and are very open to questions.

Plus word of mouth / feedback via threads just add's to above - I would have no hesitation in recommending Jabba to anyone.

Apart from their reputation there's also the value for money factor. Jabba are cheaper than the majority of other tuners plus we get a group remap discount (5 or more remaps) of 10% or, single person discount of 5%.

Since chiptuning started I've never heard from my friends, car-forums and other resourses, that the car broke after I chipped it.

Now why would some tuners differ from others in that?

Good thing though that there are stock ECU's to revert to, regardless of the chiptuning company.

Personally i find something that says DEMO, very uncertain. It just doesn't sound safe enough for me.

It's cool that revo can offer this, as they are the only one to do it. But you must be aware of what you claim the product does or does not, as customers will not like lies or statements but REAL PROOF. In that way you probably loose the majority of the customers willing to buy the full product.

If someone claims the ECU reverts to the standard map, then that is precisely what it should do. No "Flags" and certainly no second rate version of the original Skoda code.

Precisely.

It will be very interesting to see if REVO reply to ffelan's thread re his experience with the Demo version.

I was speaking to one of our customers today - who was thinking about REVO - I advised him to take a butchers at the various threads on here before he makes his choice.

If REVO are going to leave "FLAGS" or not revert to a totally standard code - they should download and store the standard code for the customer -- with maybe a refundable deposit, rather than totally free trial -- this may deter the "Oh I'll just give it a go brigade"

Flags are left to flag a Trial has been done as this is a one time only option.

Stock code "should" remain as it was, as REVO code is stored elsewhere in other address locations and should not overwrite stock code for demo. Demo is a dulled down version as not all modified tables can be reverted after the time expiration from a Full code. (its a technical limitation I believe)

Note I say "should" as that is how is is supposed to work.

If people are concerned, they should contact www.revotechnik.com about it.

regards

bill
