Coil packs

Featured Replies

Well after reading on here about the coil pack recall I decided today to pop into my local Skoda dealers and ask about my car and if it was covered under the recall.

Lovely lady I saw down there was chatting for ages and asking about me and the car which was nice and as luck would have it the car is now booked in to have its replacement coils fitted Monday next week.

Can't grumble as the service was very good and to be fair the girl I was dealing with was very nice too :)

They said they'd give the car a full safety check over for me too as am a new customer to them so really can't complain about my first dealer experience with Skoda.

Thanks to the guys and info on here too for the heads up as it was worth me going there to ask :D

good news, had mine done not long ago.

wait till you see the doom and gloom safety check list

Haha, yeah hopefully it'll all go smoothly.

Mmm, well I suppose at least it's only a checklist, I won't have to have anything else done there unless absolutely mandatory

yes good, don't get hustled into having work done thats not needed

Oh no I won't :)

It drives nicely barring the bearings and arm bushes so unless they find something seriously wrong and can prove what's wrong then I'm only giving authorisation to do the coil packs.

They seemed pretty genuine so fingers crossed all will be fine :)

good news

Don't think for a minute that they're doing a safety check for your benefit. It's solely to try to get work for themselves. Most main dealers do this these days.

Find yourself a good independent garage, preferably a VAG specialists to do your repairs.

indeed paul, thats what i was hinting at..think how many people who don't know about cars end up paying for work thats not really needed!

When i had mine replaced they found split breather pipes for me

Oh don't worry, I won't be letting them do any work on it other than the coil packs.

I have 2 very good friends that I trust with my cars when its something I can't do and one of them is a Vw nutter so helpful in this case.

He runs VW Mad as does loads of custom work and projects for himself and other people alongside his daily work.

Currently converting a corrado to a rwd vr6 turbo which is looking awesome alongside doing a hybrid turbo conversion on his R32 mk4.

All fun stuff but I trust him to do anything on the car and know he won't screw me over :)

Did they replace them? If so how much was it/did they quote you?

Mine is booked in for the coil pack recall next Friday, I have a split breather but will be ordering silicone replacements. My brakes have seen better days too but pagid discs and pads are on the way.
