Subaru impreza sti 2003-07 ish...

Featured Replies

Isn't the service interval 5000 miles?

Yes for Evos, I think it's even lower on some models. Subarus are more sane, though spark plug replacement can be costly as they're a pain to get at.

  • Yeah..lots of modded ones so choose carefully. There was the prodrive kits which take power up a notch

  • That is very tempting. Got to check with the bank manager. Oh no I mean the mrs!

  • When i bought mine (2001) servicing costs did not seem that expensive in comparison to other makes at the time. The one thing i do recall was that a cam belt change was going to be in the region of £8

I barely do 50 miles a week in my fabia so mpg and servicing costs don't really bother me too much. But if I did have a Subaru would probably do plenty more miles just out on random back road drives!

I'm a rally nut! It's the mcrae/burns/solberg thing that makes me want a Subaru over a Evo. If I had the money I would have both.

Tommi makinen.... Evo iv i think it was maybe a v. Whacked the back end off a post on one of the tarmac rallys. Continued with 3 wheels until a copper pulled him over and said he couldn't continue

Rally gb 98! Was still flying on 3 lol

Makinen in that Evo was unstoppable!

But still. It's a Subaru kinda thing!!!

British police ruined the rally on a few occasions. Some of the best drivers in the world and they won't let them continue on 3 wheels.

Australia - sainz got police escort on 3 wheels

Mexico - loeb got police escort on 3 wheels

Gb - on 2 occasions I've seen it's just no. Do not pass go, do not collect championship points.

Buy one!!!! After being in my mates today i would much rather have one over my audi

My dad has one dude, absolutely love it ! Fair bit of work has gone into it now, it's a hawk eye but just the wrx, ported headers, sti cooler, TD05 16G turbo, full 3inch turbo back Nur spec system and quite a bit more. The power delivery is awesome, the seats and everything are really comfy. Only thing is they come with a cassette player as standard haha. His is running 363bhp 407FtLb's it goes extremely well. If you're looking at getting one I'd go for the 2.5 engine if your going to be Modding it they make bags more torque. Check out his forum, NESF. Guys are all sound I regularly attended their monthly meet with him. Heres a pic :)

yeh I put it up a while back mate, was it you who just likes the video of it on the rolling road by any chance? :p

I had a classic MY 99 no engine mods. loved it and miss it dearly. Fuel mid 20s in teens if you got excited. It went were you pointed it made a average driver feel like a pro. Also the older ones sounded nice and had the flat four Burble. Insurance for an Old guy like me was around the 300 mark with Spouse fully comp.

Does this car venture over Faverdale industrial estate? I work over there and have seen (and heard!) a red Scooby driving round there recently.

Yeah that was me! It's got a nice deep rumble. I've never actually seen one in red, I bet it looks great once it's had a polish up!

I've had a 2004  Impreza WRX STi WR1, to give it it full title, for about 7yrs. It's a special edition by Prodrive to celebrate Solberg winning the WRC in 2003. They only made 500 so a little different. 320bhp, 0-60 4.25s. Economy is 22mpg on a motorway, I got 29mpg driiving off boost below 2500rpm but it was too boring. needs service every 10000 mls with intermediate oil and filter at 5000mls fully synthetic. cambelt change about every 4yrs about same cost as vRS.

Acceleration is stunning, no wheelspin in the wet,

However a std STi will be pretty close to a WR1 and a bit cheaper to buy.

Try and get an unmodified car if possible. STi is stronger engine and transmission than WRX.

Road tax goes up with a jump after march 2006,

2005/2006 was the change from Blobeye 2.0 litre to Hawkeye 2.5 litre which are not quite as reliable, can suffer head gasket and piston troubles but will have more torque. Service history needed.

Tyres same as vRS

Need 4 wheel alignment to get best handling, easier to adjust than vRS.

Conversion to HID's easy, no canbus to worry about.did mine 5yrs ago dip and main, never been flashed no prob with MOT.

I just bought a vRS tdI DSG  a couple of wks ago for the economy tho, 50mpg compared with 22mpg!

Take a look at wr1oc.co.uk and scoobynet.co.uk

Have fun!

My last 5 cars have been Scoobs .A classic wagon to start with 315bhp,a uk300 with 360bhp,a litchfield built hawkeye wagon with Porsche gt2 brakes (now with 6speed and 420bhp) and 2 foresters running 290 and 330bhp.I still have one of the forester and its for sale at the moment as I need a car that's better on fuel because of increased annual mileage :( . Try to buy an owners club car as they get looked after better.Easy to get a lot of bhp and cost so little to mod as there's loads of second hand parts out there.Just PM me if you want any advise on something you see

The WR1 is my favorite edition. I found the most refined and the right amount of power :)

We've got two, our impreza WR1 costs a bomb for obvious reasons it costs about £80 a week on petrol going to and from work only. the tax is about £250 and insurance is not cheap either. Our impreza estate has the same tax but everything else is slightly cheaper. Other than that they are very reliable and fun to drive. The 2006- present hawk eye models are a 2.5 engine instead of 2.0 and have a few problems... Bad move by Subaru.

Hope it helps mate

P1

Yeah but the P1 is classic shape and the engines don't tend to last much after 55-60k before needing work. Just from experience at the dealer I worked in where a number of imprezza owners club members met up and also had them in for the work.

Hi mate owned both scoobies and evo's i would have the subaru everyday of the week. The scoob is an excellent all rounder an if my milage hadnt increased i would still have it. £800 for a cambelt is a bit high. Servicing at a dealers is cheap but make sure whoever services it (if you use an indy) uses genuine filters. Also a cambelt kit including tensioner and water pump is about £250 plus £250 fitting so theyre really no more expensive than anything else. The drive is excellent wether giving it some or tootling about try get one that has the active centre diff aswel.

i sold my mk1 octavia076.jpg to get one a few years back and never looked back until having to use it as a tow car (towing at 8-12mpg) meant it had to go (if it sells)

and the current scoob which has to go :wall:  A proper sleeper with STI transplant swap but more power  Planned on keeping it for a long time but things change. One of my favourite cars and different from most.0d928a6e-cc9f-407b-a95c-b5340a192cbb_zps

One of those if money and waiting for the right car are not a problem.

For day to day practicality and accessible performance, I reckon you need a 2.5L STI Blob or Hawk or a Jap Spec C or Spec D. 2005 onwards STI has bigger/stronger hubs, bearings and a different PCD.

Also reckon you should do an advanced drivers course or sessions or two. Maybe a couple of IAM sessions plus a car handling session or two. Very easy for things to go badly wrong if being too enthusiastic or if the thrill overcomes caution.

J.

And don't forget the exploits of Penti Arikkala (RIP) especially on what i will always call the Lombard RAC.

I remember once seeing Pentti overtaking Tony Pond on the RAC (back when it was a real rally, none of this "Wales Rally of North Wales" rubbish).

At at the Evo point, I think it goes back to McRae or Burns. McRae fans go Subaru and Burns fans may go Evo.
