You couldn't make this up.........

Featured Replies

So off I go to Robinson Skoda in Norwich full of excitment in anticipation of picking up my brand spanking Yeti Adventure. But at the same time sad to say good bye to the trusty Volvo V50 which in 6 years of ownership from new has never missed a beat…….until today!

100 meters from the dealership the dashboard of the Volvo lights up like a 70’s disco tech, everything electrical goes dead and dashboard starts to display more messages then a BangBabes free text night.  In a blur of panic and the increasing smell of something burning I get it on the dealers forecourt.

In summary my Volvo which is financing a big chuck of the new Yeti has fried its alternator at the most in appropriate time possible.

Now comes the part trying to explain to the dealer the car they are taking is going nowhere fast and is essential broke.  So after some discussion which involves me giving the dealer a heavy deposit to cover the repair, it is agreed they will get it fixed at cost on my behalf and bill me for the repair and refund the deposit upon payment.

So….after a very stressful 2 hours I have the Yeti.  Not even had chance to have a good rummage through the car yet, saving that for the weekend!

I must praise Robinson Skoda Norwich they where fantastic, they took customer service to another level and bent over backward’s to make sure I went home in my new car.

What a day! :whew:

Sorry to hear of your problem. It's the kind of thing I've always dreaded happening after I once had a slight shunt on my way to trade in my current car.

Welcome - in the most sincere 'glad-that-wasn't-me' manner - to Yeti ownership :whew:

Terrible timing, but at least you left with a new working car rather than an old broken down one.

It clearly knew you were chopping it in, and threw a strop like a petulant child :D

The cars strop.....didn't even touch mine :@

I was due to pick up my Yeti on the Thursday but went to the dealers on the Monday to sort out the seven day insurance and have a look at the beast and on the way managed to connect with a branch hanging out from a hedge with the nearside door mirror. Damage was limited to just the glass and the mirror mounted repeater lens, so having stopped to re-affix the now shattered mirror glass, I continued to the dealer.

Got the parts department to have a look and cost up the parts required (about £60) and then approached the sales person. Having explained what had happened and shown them the damage they told me not to worry about it, they would get Parts to bill Sales and take care of it.

Old car still on the forecourt with broken mirror, they're just too busy to fix it at the moment.

Wow, what a nightmare. Hope you enjoy your Adventure.

Yer far too honest and trustworthy: best mate's wife chopped her A3 in for an Astra diesel a few years ago. She chose the Astra as it was a Vauxhall garage her Audi managed to coast into, having dropped a rod with an almighty clang on the way past. Trundled in and arranged a part-x there and then. Omitted to let on about the three-cylinder state of the A3 and drove out within the hour in her new car. Strangely enough, the garage spent the next month trying to call her.

I couldn't have got away with as it ground to a halt blocking the forecourt

All the best with the Yeti! Just remind me not to buy a used car privately from either of you guys. Especially not dcl5ad'd other half!

Think it's was "best mates wife".

Still, not a very honorable thing to do, but as they say - caveat emptor!

At least you was honest about it, unlike dcl5ad's mates missus. But then morefool them for not checking the Audi, if that was one of my salesman I'd be inclined to show him the door - pillock!

I've had a couple of customers try it on with dents etc. We have to get the exact mileage from the part ex, which also gives us a chance to double check the car. One came in with mileage already written down, said I still needed to look at car and he persisted to tell me everything was fine, not the case!! The car had taken a nice whack right across the front. We got round it in the end but did he not think I'd have spotted it from a mile off  :wall:

Enjoy the Yeti and good to hear everything was resolved without issue. Can't for the life of me think who the Sales Manager is up there now (Christine is it?)

Realised that on re-reading the post immediately afterwards. But was unable to edit at the time due to poor interweb connection on East Coast wifi. No option to edit it now that other posts come later. Apologies to dcl5ad's missus :-)

Yes Christine is the Sales Manager. The guy I dealt with was Alex Skipper....top bloke.

Could be worse. Could have been written off outside the dealership.

I know someone who had that happen on their part thanks to an elderly driver confusing pedals, and someone else whose new pride and joy was written off by a truck seconds after they left.

BMW dealer did seem confused to see them moments later asking for exactly the same again please.

No worries. I'll not tell her. ;)

What a nightmare experience, but glad it was alright in the end and you left with a new Yeti.

When I sold my Audi privately to get the Yeti I had to have a slow puncture repaired front right. Test drive went fine. Then we parked up to look at the car and whilst inspecting the from right tyre the buyer said erm I can hear air escaping! And sure it was! Urgh. Frantic search for a replacement tyre of a VERY weird size (thankfully) resulted in no tyres available anywhere. Poor bloke had to drive to Yorkshire with the space saver. But I knew he had had a brand new set of alloys at home he was going to fit and a brand new tyre would have been used but that once. So all ok in the end.

But glad you got your Yeti. Enjoy the beasty.
